Prefer shorter school holidays. Too long a holiday the child’s lazy bones grow roots already! Difficult to put them back into routine.

Look at Malaysia’s school holidays I think June is 2 weeks only.

I would rather they do not rush the syllabus. Give the child more time to absorb and internalise.

i dun like shorter holidays... i prefer longer cos it means more time for kids to rest n play...

we usually go for 2 weeks yr end holiday, and after come back still hv 1 mth to self study to catch up next yr syllabus.. when sch reopen, everything will be so rush and busy... i prefer longer ones... anyone here same mindset as me?
I think for most families with working parents the longer the holiday, the bigger the problem. We can't take leave for the whole school holidays which means the children are either at home bored (if you have someone to look after them) or we are spending money to send them to camps etc. to keep them busy. I agree that they need a break but I would prefer it to be a bit shorter. We have already had so many days of school being closed this term and the holidays haven't even started.

I went to school in the UK where we had 6 weeks in the summer but as it was summer we would go and stay with my grandparents by the sea or if we were at home we would be playing outside all day every day. You don't see Singapore children do that much and it's not safe now to let them play outside alone.

maybe that's true for many parents here... for me, i stop camps and enrichments for them as i want them to self study at home with me... i hv relatives offering to bring them out now and then so i dun really take leave to stay at home with them...

Whether the holiday is long or short does not matter. Most important is teachers don’t ask the children to go back to school and start teaching next year’s syllabus.

this i totally agree. for year end holidays, kids should not have to return to school at all...teachers themselves should enjoy a break.

I would refuse unless my child had performed really badly the previous year and it was kind of remedial.

Why not.. I like that.....

If teachers do that for the weaker students.... I'll give them lots of praises..

Perhaps OK for the mid yr holidays.

For year end, 1st 2 weeks is holiday mood...then next 2 wks many travelling...last 2 wks is festive mood....

and I'm talking about the 'chers!! 😉

I was actually just commenting to DH that even with all the breaks and no school here and there because of this and that, both kiddos' schools are done with the entire syllabus by mid Oct. Maybe because they are still in lower primary that's why. But it kinda makes me think that since they can complete the syllabus so quickly, maybe they should flesh it out a bit more. For DD's school I think they are pretty balanced but since left with so much time, maybe can introduce small scale projects for the kids. For DS, well, I think the teacher was able to complete the syllabus because she ate into a fair bit of their music and art classes, even PE as well.

As for holidays, I prefer long stretches. I'd rather combine the 2 term breaks into the semester breaks. Find that 1 week break after the term a bit disruptive. Just when the engine finally fully cranked and running, they break, causing it to slow down somewhat.
