Well, maybe in the near future we can look forward to such blissful lives. :boogie:CayennePepper:

Good point.
Without LKY, probably we won't even have this GEP/DSA/IP issues to consider. Most of us will probably not be as educated as we are now. Can even look over our shoulders & rejoice over our less stressful, less competitive life.Twinkies:
Hmmmm. Dun sound that bad after all.Haha, yes, indeed, CayennePepper, :imanangel: it'd be so blissful that me/my children would be the smartest of all in the neighborhood, but then again, those below still would complain and lobbying for the bar to be lowered, yet again (?)
Then, one day we will be blissfully look around SG that ALL OF
US ARE IN THE SAME INTELLIGENCE LEVEL, no one is smarter than the other, so peace with all (?)
It's like Marxism Education System ? and the eventual attainment of a classless society (?)
So where is the cut-off point for majority/mainstreamers?
Top 3 classes? Mixed ability classes? Foundation classes? Wanna level playing field right? Then at which level? Most fair will be at the lowest/most disadvantaged level right?
Hmmm.... entertaining the dangerous thoughts ?
Equality and eradicating all competitiveness is the mother of all dangers...
The final full result would be a giant monster that no one could tamed, and that would happened when we are grandparents/great-grandparents ?
Then, maybe there'll be just another LKY in shining armor, if we are lucky enough ? -

According to Wikipedia:-
若当局把高材测试延至小六, 会让更多家长安心吗?CayennePepper:

希望当局能够考虑废除天才班,或透过DSA直接收取天才班,和直通车等这些让家长和孩子们都感到焦虑的条例与政策。
家长和孩子感到焦虑, 是因为他们把得失看得太重了吧!如能随遇而安。。。
Intellectual giftedness is an intellectual ability significantly higher than average. It is different from a skill, in that skills are learned or acquired behaviors......
天才 or Gifted, is born with high Intelligent Quotes. By right, it's not something that should be cultivated or nurtured, no?
Regardless of at P3 or P6, the gifted ones would remain gifted, delaying the selecting process is only served to fulfill certain parents that are hopeful of making their children \"the gifted\" to have more time?
I guess it's not palatable at whatever age, as long as parents continue to view the programme as a sure-fire path to success in achievement-oriented Singapore. -
Can we rename this thread? Or move some parts of the discussion somewhere else?

wonderm:
The need to remove GEP, DSA, IP is to allow a level playing field for the majority? :?
I thought every P3 is given a chance to take the GEP screening test?
I thought every P6, GEP or mainstream, is allowed to try for DSA? Some top schools have different selection process for GEP and mainstream, but as it has been discusssed in other threads, the GEP students still have to meet some requirements and it is not really \"easy\" per se.
I know some may say that children from more well-to-do or more resourceful families will be better prepared for these tests, is that where the \"unleveled\" playing field is coming from? There is certain truth in this, I am not arguing against that. But in this case, the same kids will still have that \"unfair\" advantage when taking PSLE, right? even if GEP, DSA and IP are removed, these kids will still have better chance of entering the top schools?
We are back to square one? :?
From what I read so far, being given a chance to try for GEP/DSA/IP etc isn't enough... they want in! Period! Thus, either they made it, or destroy it please...
Some one mentioned that there are 91 schools in total offer DSA, but the parents' are locking target only at a handful \"branded\" \"elite\" ones perhaps? -
How? How? How?

Your avatar!!
I should be the one that's asking \"how how how\"... as I am packing my young daughter back to Singapore for good... :skeptical: -
Twinkies:
Then we should just get rid of these handful of elite schools coz they are the cause of all these unhappiness.

But why? Elitism is everywhere under the sun, we are not hermit, aren't we? How to improve lives if we don't wanna see the smart ones thrive?
If we are going to be cancer stricken one day, won't we wish that there'll be some GEP grade of oncologists available? Though our children may not be the one, but someone else's would. -
I have never trace whether family GP is GEP grade or not. My ds’ surgeon I also didn’t ask GEP or not. But then again, I think they missed the GEP screening lah since only started 1984?
Is that the qn to ask next time? -

30 to 40% maybe?
What in your opinion constitutes a high proportion?sinoboy:
Their overall numbers might be small in proportion to the whole cohort but i'm curious what is their composition in top schools like Hwa Chong, NYGS, RI, RGS, GEP programs or successful DSAs either by academic or Chinese instruments. If the proportion in top/IP schools are high then are there enough places for locals to join the top JCs like HCI or RI? Judging from the COP of 3 points from 6 subjects I think not easy.
