MOE to stop publishing names of top students?

Can we rename this thread? Or move some parts of the discussion somewhere else?

The need to remove GEP, DSA, IP is to allow a level playing field for the majority? :?
I thought every P3 is given a chance to take the GEP screening test?
I thought every P6, GEP or mainstream, is allowed to try for DSA? Some top schools have different selection process for GEP and mainstream, but as it has been discusssed in other threads, the GEP students still have to meet some requirements and it is not really \"easy\" per se.
I know some may say that children from more well-to-do or more resourceful families will be better prepared for these tests, is that where the \"unleveled\" playing field is coming from? There is certain truth in this, I am not arguing against that. But in this case, the same kids will still have that \"unfair\" advantage when taking PSLE, right? even if GEP, DSA and IP are removed, these kids will still have better chance of entering the top schools?
We are back to square one? :?
From what I read so far, being given a chance to try for GEP/DSA/IP etc isn't enough... they want in! Period! Thus, either they made it, or destroy it please...
Some one mentioned that there are 91 schools in total offer DSA, but the parents' are locking target only at a handful \"branded\" \"elite\" ones perhaps? -
How? How? How?

Your avatar!!
I should be the one that's asking \"how how how\"... as I am packing my young daughter back to Singapore for good... :skeptical: -
Twinkies:
Then we should just get rid of these handful of elite schools coz they are the cause of all these unhappiness.

But why? Elitism is everywhere under the sun, we are not hermit, aren't we? How to improve lives if we don't wanna see the smart ones thrive?
If we are going to be cancer stricken one day, won't we wish that there'll be some GEP grade of oncologists available? Though our children may not be the one, but someone else's would. -
I have never trace whether family GP is GEP grade or not. My ds’ surgeon I also didn’t ask GEP or not. But then again, I think they missed the GEP screening lah since only started 1984?
Is that the qn to ask next time? -

30 to 40% maybe?
What in your opinion constitutes a high proportion?sinoboy:
Their overall numbers might be small in proportion to the whole cohort but i'm curious what is their composition in top schools like Hwa Chong, NYGS, RI, RGS, GEP programs or successful DSAs either by academic or Chinese instruments. If the proportion in top/IP schools are high then are there enough places for locals to join the top JCs like HCI or RI? Judging from the COP of 3 points from 6 subjects I think not easy.

Sorry, I used the term \"GEP\" wrongly, I was trying to use the term to refer to the top grade surgeons. Apologies for misquoting the term, didn't know it's such a sensitive term.
Guess the top grade of whatever profession is not limited to only those pupils that are from Gifted-Educational-Program
What I gathered so far, they are only about 500 each year, definitely too small a pool to take away all opportunities life has to offer...
