Secondary School Selection 2012
-
Dear all,
I'm new in this forum. My dd fared poorly , scoring 208 :(. At this stage, its about choosing the sec school. We stay at sengkang. And are looking for schools that are strict , good discipline (which I believe is generally a problem in schools with these lower cop, only a matter of degree). Worried abt peer negative influence as she's highly impressionable. With this score, the choices are really limited.. any advise?
Looking at the following:-
1. edgefield
2. pei hwa
3. sengkang sec
4. hougang sec
5. ?
6.?
we are thinking of appealing to Bo wen (based on her taekwondo black belt), any chances as the gap fr COP is so wide??? -

Maybe talk to edgefield? I understand they have quite a strong taekwondo team....Dear all,

Hi Zeemimi, thank u for the advice, actually TKGS was initially after SMSS (st margarets), however the principal said that I would have to place TKGS as 1st or 2nd choice to appeal. As such, I will push TKGS n PLMGS up, this leaves me with 2 more blanks to fill up after removing IJ Toa Payoh n SMSS . Can you kindly suggest some schools please? :thankyou:
assuming the cop for this year will be somewhat similar to last year, 233 is quite a few points off Crescent, IJ(TP) and SMSS. Chances are slim for these schools.gdy2shoes:
Dear All,
Firstly, thank you for this website. It's a lifesaver! :lovesite: My DD scored 233 with HMT Tamil (merit), am confused as to which schools to apply:
My choices are:
1.Crescent
2.TKGS
3.IJ Toa Payoh
4.SMSS
5.PLMGS
6.IJ STC
Given the fact that I intend to opt for third lang (i.e. Malay Special Programme) for my DD, is my choice of schools appropriate?,Kindly advise and many thanks in advance. :?: :?
SMSS = st margaret's? SMSS has a higher COP than TKGS. so it is a bit weird to put smss as 4th choice. same for IJ(TP) too.
it will be better to push PLMGS and TKGS higher up your choice. -
Dear all,
I’m new here and considering the following choices for my child with T-score 215:-
1.St Gabriel Sec - 216
2.Montfort Sec - 206
3.Beatty Sec - 216
4.Peirce Sec - 209
5.Serangoon Gardens Sec - 188
6.Bartley Sec - 188
Really appreciate some comments/views…TIA -
Home Sweet Home:
u may end up in nan hua or chung cheng ... SJI/CHS/ACS(I) cut off may go up too as they are starting IP track in 2013 and some places are kept for them ...Need parents advise...
My son score 244 + 2 . Any chance of getting into VS (247), if I appeal?
The 6 choices of the school will be as follow:
1) VS(247) -3
2) ACSI (247) -3
3) CHS (248) -2
4) Nan Hua High (243) +3
5) SJI (242) + 2
6) Chung Cheng Main (237) +9
Thank you parents! -
Can someone advise if Anglican High is a good school. Their 2 newly implemented programs of scholarship and parallel curriculum seem to benefit the good performer only.
How about their CCA? Which area are they strong in? They do not seem to have NPCC and soccer.
Thanks! -
Is Bowen a good school? Heard very ah beng and lian? Is it true ? Anyone knows?

Yes, AHS is a good SAP school. They have modular kinda test every other week. My niece is there. They have track record for O level. From what I know, those scored 248 last year couldn't get into Cedar and end up in AHS.Can someone advise if Anglican High is a good school. U mean it will not affecr my chance of getting HD S (Hai Sing) if I put MS first choice and MS 2nd choice?
If you prefer MS than HS than you have to put MS as first choice. Posting is base on merit. He will be posted HS even before those who put it as 1st choice but have lower score than him.mummy so kiasu:
Putting MS as 2nd choice and HS as first choice - is this strategy a wise one? Sigh, such a tough decision
You should put the one with higher COP first. It will not affect your chance of getting into MS. Try to choose schools not more than 2 points above your child's score. Make sure than the last 2 choices are at least 2 points below your child's score.
