      Hi,

Need some kind advice here. Initially i thought i had it all worked out until my daughter's friends and teacher start advicing my daughter on her choice. My dd score is 249+2 and below is our initial choice:

      1) DH IP (Last year COP 256, 5points off)
      2) Cedar IP (Last year COP 258, 9Points off as HMT 2 points not applicable)
      3) Cedar Express (Last year COP 249)
      4) SCGs Express (Last Year COP 248)
      5) AH Express (Last year COP 243)
      6) TKGs Express (Last year COP 235)

I know DH and Cedar IP is a far shot but we understand that there are 8 more schools offering IP, does that translate to more vacancies? Then again i also recognise that there are more children this year, being the dragon year. Is my choices wise?

My daugther's friends and teachers adviced her to drop her 1st two choices but we would like to try and will it impact her chance of getting into 3th or 4th choice if someone with same score put 3rd or 4th as their first choice. how likely will there be another student with the same score as my ds, quite likely me think?

Really headache.. deadline is tomorrow and still considering. faintz.

Will greatly appreciate any kind advice from people who knows how this thing really works.. Thanks
How about CHIJ St Nicholas? She will be able to use her HMT 2 points.

        Hi,

Thanks for your suggestion, Initially it is one of my choice but then DS came to me and said perhaps i should put St Nich below AHS… then i was thinking, what’s the point since AHS COP is lower than St Nich, waste of bullet. Thus, removed St nich… Moreover, hubby not willing to shift out of East Area. SCGs is an exception coz DS really likes it very much so hubby no choice.

Actually, as i was reading the thread, i understand frist choice is very important especially for appeal cases, is that right? if yes, what if my DS put Cedar IP and Cedar express as first two choices, what is her chance of appealing for Cedar express if unsuccessful? Does anyone know?

        Thanks in advance for sharing.

          Good Morning, oosh,

Yes, the S1 selection and posting is base on merits.

Do revisit the COP for the various institutions at thoughts and tried to fit within the band of the COP.

Do remember that many parents and students are also in the impression of taking up appeal in the event of a undesired posting. And that appeal usually covers more than academics, it's a plus if your child had established track records in CCAs (eg. robotics, cultural dance, school band, sports - volleyball, basket ball, table tennis etc) of benefits to the institution of choice.

With these in mind, be firm and clear about your choice of schools. Some institution offers the IP track/dual track while others don't or are in the pipeline.

Secondary education is another milestone of learning, if the child does well, it's your blessings in disguise. No pressure, just provide the morale support, whatever goes.

          Have A Nice Day

Yr DD shd make full use of her HMT point. Wasted not to use.
Can see that she wants to go into IP Prog.
Its very unlikely that DH n Cedar COP for IP will drop to 249-251 range even there are more IP schools next year.
Yes, you can appeal. But there will b many many appeal cases with students that have scores very close to 256-259. These students will stand a better chance. Unless DD has special talents in Sports which is Cedar's niche.
            Sorry have to say this.
Now, back to IP Prog. Yr DD shd try to put St Nicks IP as lst choice ( can use bonus pt ).
2nd choice St Nicks O Level (with 251, certain to get in for O Level ).
Under yr current option, Anglican High is for sure able to get in.
But would you prefer Anglican High over St Nicks?

Hi, thanks for all the sharing. I prefer st nick but ds prefer AHS. Since ds is the one studying, then no point forcing her?

If AHS is the preferred choice, then no point putting st nick, is my rationale correct?

My DD cannot qualify for St Nicks. Yrs can, that's why I find it a waste not to opt for St Nicks as yr lst n 2nd choice.
As mentioned, if yr DD wants IP Prog, St Nicks IP will b easier to get in compared to DH.
Between AH n St Nicks, both are SAP and gd schools but still a difference in academic std.
St Nicks' Culture is unique.U shd bring her down to see the school's campus before 12 pm today. Hv a feel of the school.
                Sorry abit long winded.

                  sinohub:
When comparing the different schools, I think we should compare the % of pupils with 250+ and the mean scores of the schools. We also should exclude the GEP students of the school since they are originally from different schools and they should be 250+ in any way. Including these factors, maybe you will find many schools may not be that good as it appears. I think Rulang or Aitong is better than NY or Nan Hua, after all if you child can enter GEP, she/he can get high score in any school.

I am totally agreed with you. :rahrah:

between AH and St Nick, go St Nick better !
                      i) St Nick is Band 1

although SNGS IP yet to prove herself, but her O level has been very well established for years. The Sec school pupils there are taught to treat and look upon one another in SNGS as sisters, jie-mei. The bond is very strong. Once an IJ girl, always an IJ girl.

ii) apply foresight for future next generation for oosh.

St Nick is a full school.
30 yrs later for P1 registration, oosh grand-daughter can apply for St Nick Primary 1, under Phase 2A (provided this scheme still exist 30 years later from today).
