I've been researching on this area of weight loss for years since I struggled so much with my weight. I even had prescription appetite suppressants previously but that is definitely one of the worst things one can take. I'm really surprised doctors even prescribe it to their patients. My doc herself was taking it. They wreck your metabolic rate big time.

This whole weight loss thing is truly a mind-body-spirit thing. Based on what I've researched so far, for sustainable weight loss, it's important that you don't try to lose more than 100 calories a day. If you lose too fast, your body reacts and you could actually prevent yourself from losing weight later on. Even circuit training is a art & science too. The intensity of the workout is important. You can do circuit training but you may not be really be raising your heart rate or building your muscles adequately to move up your metabolic rate.

Of course, the other half of the battle is diet and your digestive health. It's more about eating good carbs rather than low carbs. If you work out 3-5 times a week, you must consume carbs or you'll be sabotaging your weight loss. Your body is very smart, if your body thinks you're starving it, it will cling onto your fats to prevent you from losing too much weight as it thinks the body is under attack!! I don't count calories but I watch my portions. That's how my trainer tells me. It's about portion, not calorie counting.

The first 2 months, I barely saw any movement on the scale because I was actually losing fats and gaining muscle. What's important is whether the dress size is going down, overall do you look firmer and trimmer.
      :thankyou:

Is it more effective to join a gym or go free flow... Sigh, I've got problem sticking to a exercise routine.

If you have problem sticking to a routine then sometimes the discipline of joining a gym can help either due to the fact that you are paying money & feel guilty if you don't go or because you can schedule yourself to attend certain classes which gives you more of a routine.

Another alternative might be finding a friend (or your husband) to work out with you - then you can encourage one another.

Yes, exercise can be bonding time with spouse too.
Hubby & I attending Rumba box & Salsa dances, Kickboxing & ABT together.
So he is my exercise kaki too.

And I fell in love with Zumba fitness. Doing zumba twice a week. Highly recommended! Just go sign up at any CC near you. Don't really need kakis for zumba because you will be too busy watching instructor's every single dance step, no time to chat 😉

Circuit training in gym is in fact the most boring among all these exercises. Rather repetitive and I don't find it that effective in losing weight, only good for toning. And for toning, honestly all you need is a yoga mat and dumb bells. So I'm probably not continuing with my gym membership when it expires next year.

Bn doing it twice a week, once pilates & once circuit training with personal trainer. But I find that because my stamina is getting better, there are times I barely break a sweat during the zumba classes if the instructor is not vigorous enough.

My fitness trainer also advised me that to get to the next level of fitness, it's good to have variety; then you can do work out your body all round. My pilates workout really helps me build good coordination & flexibility and it's wonderful for your spine as you get older. I'm still happy with my circuit training with my fitness trainer as he puts in enough challenge & variety in the workout. The key is still having a good trainer. Because I've learnt enough moves from my trainer, I also sometimes go to a neighbourhood track & just do my runs & dumbells on my own.

I agree. I had a friend who took them. After a month, I couldn't recognise him. He was like half his original size. But the moment he stopped taking them, he was back to himself again. Seeing is really believing! I cannot imagine what this kind of change will do to our health in the long term.

Sure. Will pm you. Don't like to do open marketing of fitness centres. But I must admit that I'm very choosy about the trainers I work with. I've tried different Pilates trainers and in my books, there are only 2 trainers I would work out with. They must be very observant and really know how to combine different exercises to give you a great workout and they also need to be able to adjust to your needs if it's a group class.

For Zumba, I find it's the same thing. It really takes a good trainer to bring your heart rate up and yet make you feel sooo \"sexy\" while exercising!!

At the end, it's really about enjoying your workout and loving your body even when it's not at the ideal state. I've also learnt to appreciate my current state even though it's not yet at its most fit level. It's also been encouraging to have my hubby \"appreciate\" my body even with all its cellulite!!

Hi Pls check your messages. I've pm you and given the details. In short, my fitness trainer has his own gym so there's a lot of privacy. It's not a public gym. I enjoy the privacy & the customised workout I get. You do pay more but to me, it's worth it because I learn alot from my trainer about health, doing proper exercises and so overall, I find it enjoyable.
