hi vevey
What symptoms should we look out for? My ds also has frequent urination sometimes… -

Oh, frequent urination is an unrelated problem. I had him tested in case of urinary tract infection as he is doing this for past2 wks. Turns out ok, so could b a phase or his foreskin is getting in the way. Just that the gp was alarmed when he saw the bulge while examining him. Ds had been playing in the playground when waiting for his turn so the bulge was v obvious.hi vevey

Thanks for ur PM. Really appreciate that.Hi Vevey,
PM you already.
Post surgery wasn't too tough, just be abit careful not to bump onto wound directly.
There wasn't any scare.....:-)
Don't know y I can't reply via pm w my phone.. -
I need a hernia repair surgeon. Would be grateful if anyone can recommend one.
Surgery required for my 21 years old nephew. Actually he is very fit and somehow just kena this hernia out from nowhere…
As the surgery seems to be very close to the reproductive organs, am concern that whether it will affect his sexual life later if put under the knife of a sotong doctor… -

Not sure if he operates on adults though. -
Vevey:
Okie okie, thanks! I shall shortlist him as one the potential ones.
My son went to Dr C K Sim at mt A.
Not sure if he operates on adults though.
Basically intend to bring him to see two surgeons to hear what each has to say and also to get a quote for the surgery.
I read from below and stick out my tongue (day surgery in Mt E can cost as high as $10,000 but Mt A about $5,000). Can you PM me the fees that you paid for your child please for me to have a price guide? Lucky he is covered under Class I medical insurance else burning a big hole on pockets! (though fully covered, I also don't want to pay excessively cos that may raise general premium for all unnecessarily and ultimately it will hurt me).
Was your child's case a day surgery or stayed over a night? Did doc say cannot do strenuous exercise in the future?

Will try to dig out e bills when back from hols.
It's a day surgery (15min in op for 1 side hernia) n ok to resume normal activities upon doc's clearance that wound had healed after a wk.
We let him swim after 2 mths to play safe.hercules:

Hi Vevey
I brought my nephew to the surgeon yesterday and the quote is about $6000 for open surgery (meaning not keyhole).
I discussed with surgeon whether after the surgery, it will affect his NS. Surgeon replied it should not be an issue at all and he can function as any other normal fit man.
I queried him whether it will affect his sexual reproduction organs. He replied it is generally safe with minimal risk of affecting his erection, sperm production and sperm count. He shared that there are rare cases of patients he saw with smaller testes. These patients have earlier hernia surgery when young (a few years old) and suffered relapse and needed a second surgery. They have smaller testes that affect their sexual reproduction ability and he is not sure whether this is due to the surgery that was not done well during the first time or it is due to the men originally have under-developed testes.
Sharing with you so that you can take note of the size of your child’s testes sizes as he grows and to take action to rectify where necessary (not mean to frighten you but better to take note cos damage can be irreversible if ‘repair’ cannot be done in time).
I have been trying to source around for more info. heard from a friend’s friend who went through the surgery several years back as an adult. Now he is happily married with two kids.
I still yet to decide on a surgeon. Intend to hear from one more before I make the final decision by year end. Tho risk is small, complications can be for a lifetime and so I will only get nothing but the best. -
Hi Hercules,
r u referring to Dr Sim? I understand he has a clinic at mt E too, but e hospital charges will differ?
Thanks for e info abt reproductive ability, we will take note. When we were considering whether to go ahead w e op, our gp did cautioned us that e constant rubbing of protruded part of e intestine against e testes might result in "overheating" n thus affects e sperm count. That’s 1 of e reasons y we decided not to drag further. Ds2 was having pain at e area whenever he exerted.
Is ur nephew affected on 2 sides?
I will pm abt e cost when I get hold of laptop later, can’t do it on phone.
