Providing an update at a media conference, transport operator SMRT said that 20 bus drivers from China and SMRT personnel are assisting the police in their investigations.
SMRT added that disciplinary action will be taken against those who didn't turn up for work and didn't have valid reasons but did not disclose what the disciplinary action would include. -
Funz:
Failing to draw candidtates' attention to the fact that they are signing up for a job in public transport which requires them to give 14 days notice before a strike is also poor HR.They may not have chosen the correct way to raise their displeasure or unhappiness but I do not think we should label them trouble makers.
This is poor HR management by SMRT. When managing staff, we have to think about their emotions as well. We can say all we want about the drivers signing a contract, blah, blah, blah, but if there is a sense of being treated unfairly, it needs to be addressed with care and not with that piece of paper shoved in their faces. Lets hope SMRT improve their process and communication with their staff going forward.
Is this where we are supposed to ask about the nationality of the HR manager? :siam: -
SBS transit is better management i think. once doing transit from purple line to red line can see the great difference with environment and staff.

Police arrested a total of four male China nationals over Wednesday and Thursday for taking part in the SMRT bus drivers’ strike earlier this week.
In a statement, police said the men are slated to be charged in the subordinate courts at 5pm Thursday under section 10(a) of the Criminal Law Act, which refers to instigating or inciting others to take part in an illegal strike or lock-out.
If found guilty, they shall be liable to a fine not exceeding $2,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months or to both.
On Monday, over 170 SMRT bus drivers from China staying at a workers’ dormitory in Woodlands refused to go to work in protest over the disparity in their pay compared to their Malaysian counterparts.
More than half the number also did not turn up on Tuesday but but Wednesday all the workers except those with medical reasons had gone back to work.
Acting Manpower Minister Tan Chuan Jin called the mass action as an "illegal strike" that was "unacceptable" and would be dealt with accordance to the law. -
Anyway, those 4 Chinese men are arrested. The others who joined in the strike should be duly punished too…can’t possibly let them off just bcos they went back to work soon after…but the very fact they participated is wrong.
Btw, where is the CEO? On holiday?
TCJ, JT and TSLuck have spoken up. -
