Give a half-teaspoon of honey to children ages 2 to 5; 1 teaspoon to children ages 6 to 11; and 2 teaspoons to those 12 and older. Do not give honey to babies younger than 1 because of the risk of infant botulism. If the coughing is so severe that it keeps a child from sleeping, or if the cough lasts beyond 10 days, discuss it with a doctor. 😄

hi, actually I would refrain from honey unless it is only used for curing phlegm, used in tiny amounts and only for a short term. Cos honey is very high in sugar and sugar would suppress a child's immune system. and i would only recommend raw honey. most honey sold in the supermarkets are processed with little nutritional value. just my 2 cents 🙂

Drink eight to ten glasses of water. Thin out the mucus by drinking plenty of water while suffering from a cough.

Dissolve the licorice powder in a cup of hot water. Add a small amount of honey to flavor the hot tea. Consume the licorice tea as needed to suppress your cough. Licorice is a common ingredient found in lozenges and has been used as traditional cough remedy worldwide

Take a hot shower. Break up congestion and relieve coughing by taking a long hot shower.

There is a delicious drink or even can take it as a desert. This is very commonly prepared by people in China and I learned it from my sister who has been residing there for many years.

For cough, you can buy Chinese pears. Not peckham pears. Skinned them and cut it into medium pieces. Double boil it with Chinese almonds (east and west types). You can add about two bowls of water and add rock suger for taste.

Double boil for about 1 hour in medium heat. When it cooled down and warm, let your kids drink the water. Can eat the pear and almonds also if you want. It is very refreshing, especially if you chilled it.

Of course, when not feeling well, take it warm. Other times, can eat it as desert.

It is supposed to nourish our lungs. It is natural, so dont need to worry about clashing with other medication.

You can buy the pre-packed one from NTUC. I find it very convenient and you don't have to worry getting the wrong combination.

Try preparing it. Just dump every ingredients in and boil. Even normal times, can prepare for whole family. Very delicious and refreshing.

Just wanted to share… Especially if your child seems to be having an on off cold and cough all the time…

My child had coughs and colds on and off, sometimes mild and at times very bad. Sometimes, he would have symptoms of another flu a day or a few days after recovering from a previous bout of cold. Once, he had a bad flu and was put on a long course of antibiotics for 2 weeks by the pediatrician. Strangely, he got worse whilst on the antibiotics. We were referred to an ENT specialist. Specialist suggested surgery after examining nasal passage and throat ( which we refused ) and a blood test to check for allergies ( which was performed ). The results of the blood test showed that my child was allergic to milk and other things. We stopped giving him cow’s milk and switched to Isomil ( spy based milk ) and within 2 weeks, the "cough and cold" cleared.

It didn’t occur to me then that my child could be allergic to milk, after all he had been drinking it for years and since birth. There were no rashes or swelling…just this on and off cold and cough. Am glad we did find out the cause of it finally.

So to fellow parents, don’t rule out allergies…

Eating chicken can cause cough to worsen. What’s the logic? Don’t want to believe also no choice. My child’s cough worsened after my husband gave her some chicken meat to eat. The next day coughed non stop. Anyone know what’s the logic? Heard from the old generation say don’t let children eat chicken meat if they have cough. Or else cough worsens. So there’s truth to it?
