        T101:
        South African:

Hi parents, my DS is going into Yr 2 next year and trying for the IP. Need some parental advice.

        (1) Sec 1 & Sec 2 results - what kind of sec 1 results (my son did a 68% in yr 1 - but got A1/A2 for Maths, Physics, Geo & English) and sec 2 result are they looking at? Also at sec 2, is it just CA1 & CA2?
        (2) HAST test - How bad can this get? And if my DS has never failed in any subjects, got strong A1 in Maths?
        (3) CCA & Leadership - He's into competitive sports (trained 5 times a wk) and no particular leadership roles? How much does CCA play in selection criteria?
        (4) Teacher's recommendations? Which teacher plays a bigger part? Form teacher?
        (5) Interviews - What kind of Qs and what do they look out for?

Pardon for the long q, but I know I can always count on the close ACS community for help. Thank you.

Hi, son is in Express but will in IP year 3 next year. These are our experience:

        1. Generally, do need consistent good results in year 1 and year 2 (up to mid year). My son managed to obtain more than 80% for year 1 and year 2. His friends that got into IP also did well in their studies, between 70% to 80%.

        2. Unable to provide info on HAST test as son not required to take test, results >80%.

        3. Important to do well in the Interview. Understand from son that it is not difficult, just show confident when answering. As for the interview questions, the boys do share the questions after the interviews. Ask your son to engage his friends.

        4. Son totally involved in his competitive CCA and did not have other activities. Understand that some of his friends were selected simply based on their CCA involvement.

        5. Teachers' recommendations are taken into consideration. Son had a couple of wonderful subject teachers who know him well. Important for your son to engage his teachers.

        Hi T101,

Thank you for sharing your experience. My DS will have to do his best and show improvements and enthusiasm in Yr 2. Am sure at P2, the standard will go up as most kids who are motivated (or parents) would put in their best.

Hi Parents of 2013 Year 1 ACSI pupils.

What does my son wear to registration/orientation on 19 Dec? Is it the old school uniform or the new school uniform? Do we need to bring our old report books and PSLE slip etc? I heard we can pay for the expenses through credit card. Please enlighten me. Thanks :lightrod:

            Hi truth hurts,

Traditionally, Registration in ASCI is spread over 2 days. First day for feeder schools, the next day for non-feeder schools. This year, it will be 19th dec and 20th dec. It's just confirming your child's details and issuing of orientation kit (it used to b $30). There is no need to wear new uniform. Your child can either wear old sch uniform or even home clothes. U need to bring along with u results slip, report card and if offered EESIS, the letter stating so as well.

After registration in the auditorium, u can proceed to the bookshop and uniform counter to make your purchase. If I m not wrong, the bookshop accept cheques n NETS.

            See u there! 😉

The bookshop does not accept NETS. They only accept cash and cheque. I just checked, unless they’re making special arrangements.

The Sec 1 textbooks cost around $220, only cash or cheque. We didn’t buy DS’s uniforms from the vendor near the bookshop, prefer to buy from Bibi & Baba @ Far East Shopping Centre #02-28 (I think they should be at the school on orientation days). I find the quality of their uniforms is better. All in all, I spent about $400 for books and uniform.

                  Dear Parents of ACS(I) Boys

Hi, my DS1 just got posted to ACS(I) but we live in the east. Is there a private sch bus that goes from the east (marine parade) to ACS(I)? I heard from friend that there is/was and cost around $130 per mth (past yrs’ rates).

Does anyone have the contact number of a private bus company number?

Many thanks for help to provide contact number.

                  Regards
                  Lindy

                    Hi Lindy,

You can contact private bus operator:

                    Jonathan Chan 94743637 / 92376510 (brother-in-law Mr Lim)

He told me that they have a current bus that goes from Marine Parade 😄

                      Hi, all ACSI S1parents.

We did our S1 reporting and registration today. (today is for the feeder boys.)

There was no briefing, only a quick and simple registration process, and boys are given a kit/pack containing all their need to know about the school.
3rd to 8th Jan is the orientation camp/week, on the 8th Jan the Principal will meet the parents.

For those that are eligible and opted for 3rd language, you will get a letter of your application status when you register. Please remember to remind the registration officers that you are expecting the 3rd language letter. My friend had to return because the officer forgot to hand her the letter.

The buying textbooks n stuff took much longer time, about 1.5- 2hrs.

The school uniforms, PE tank top/shorts, polo T, lab coat, sweater and house T are being sold at the open area at the foyer of auditorium. There are 2 vendors, Bibibaba and Finest Fashion Center.
Fitting is a bit of hassle, as there are no fitting room, so try to wear light so that your boys could just pull over for a quick fitting.

Textbooks vendor is located at another building a short walk away, but no sheltered walkway, so do bring along umbrella if it’s a wet weather tomorrow.
Payment mode is cash or cheque; the queue for cheque payment is much much shorter.
The books are super heavy, so it’s advice to buy it only after buying the rest.

Co-op is at the canteen a level below the auditorium; there you can get the stationaries, compo/writing pads, files etc; school badge, ACSI necktie, ACSI socks and ACSI cooperate yellow T shirt (to be worn on every last Friday of the month.)
All boys would be issue a necktie and a school badge on the first day of school, for those that would like to get the additional set, co-op is the place to go to.

Parents that are driving their boys to to school would have to go to the general office to get a car label; without that your car are not permitted to enter when school opens.

Note: Unverified, it’s compulsory to wear ACSI socks. Co-op is the only place that sells, and the boys at co-op told me it would be too long queue when school opens, unless my son don’t mind to use up his entire recess time to queue for the socks,  so I bought 6 pairs! LOL.

                        Hi Mrs Lindy Lee,

I am in ACS(I) going to year 2 next year. I live in Marine Parade and take Jonathan's bus. Please note that school buses to Marine Parade will pick up your son quite early. Likely between 6:10 and 6:30. Some of my friends in and around M.Parade take MRT from Kembangan so that they can leave home a little later.
