My DS got into Victoria IP (257). Wondered why VS IP COP dropped from 255 to 252 this year. Anyone can share?

TJC is more established espcially since already have an IP programme for Sec 3 students and have a proven track record for JC. Much better than unknowns like SCGS, SNGS and CHS where they have no IP experience at all and will go on to form a brand new JC which will have many teething problems. Ironically COP for these 3 schools is higher than TJC. I believe got to do more with location as TJC is not as centrally located as the other 3.

location certainly play a part. at central location, u can go there from north, east and west besides central (south). if you are at east, u attract those from east basically

I am from far North and daughter got a place at TJC. I believe in a small country like Singapore , location should never be a factor especially from Secondary level onwards. Important to get the best school for the child regardless of location. Parents nowdays really pamper their kids with anything more than 20 minutes away being considered too far.[/quote]I think travelling from the North to the East is a bit too tiring for the kid. My personal opinion. Especially so in secondary school when the child is already coping with longer hours in school and CCA activities .SCGS, SNGS and CHS are good secondary schools and they will do well with the IP setup. I think it boils down to personal preference .

Most likely due to increase in intake in VS as well as the increase in schools participating in the integrated programme.

To me distance is a important factor when deciding school. Imagine school starts at 720am. If bus/train travelling takes about an hour, child will have to leave home by 615am. That mean child will have to wake up by 530-545am. this is the schedule of my kid and imagine he usually have to stand all the way (2 buses) till reach school. Rarely there will be seats for him.

After a busy day in school, he will still have to travel another hour of journey home. But this usually will have seats, unless he come back during peak hours on CCA days.

Thanks for reply! Now remember one VS staff mentioned they have 160 IP places this year and majority are reserved for S1 posting.

I am surprised the SCGS(IP) is 252 and the SCGS(O) is only one point lesser at 251. I expected the SCGS(IP) COP to be higher.

                agree!
one point difference is very insignificant.
people are expecting minimal at least 5 points difference, if not more.
those SCGS who applied O level maybe should have applied for ... SCGS IP instead.

if compare maiden IP take off between SCGS (IP from 252) vs SNGS (IP from 255 upwards),
it indicated that ... demand for IP @St Nick is stronger / higher than IP @ SCGS.

My friend's son gets 213. Also can't get into Edgefield & Compassvale. He is being posted to Sengkang Sec. Will try to appeal. Most schools COP have increased by 2 to 3 points. Wow...214 can't even get into North Vista? That's very strange. My friend had just called North Vista. The school told her its COP is 210 only!

Can't say distance is unimportant. Ideally is not more than 30 mins. Willing to spend up to 45 mins traveling if the school is a top school.

What if the choice is between a IP and non-IP school. That is you either get an IP school which is 1 hour away or a non-IP school which is say 30 mins away? Would you not be willing to make a sacrifice?. In our case, the choices based on the t-score were SCGS (IP) TJC and Cedar (IP) which would be borderline . SNGS would be much nearer but it does not offer any other 2nd lang other than Chinese. I am staying in Yishun. So what would be your choice? Opt for a non-IP school in Yishun , Ang Mo Kio or Woodlands just because of the proximity?
Kids waking up at 5.45am is quite a norm nowadays.
During my days in school I travelled 60-75mins each way in old non-airconditioned rackety buses and still did well in school.
In my case I will be sending one way and should take no more than 25 mins early morning.
