COP 2012 - For Secondary Schools in 2013

What if the choice is between a IP and non-IP school. That is you either get an IP school which is 1 hour away or a non-IP school which is say 30 mins away? Would you not be willing to make a sacrifice?. In our case, the choices based on the t-score were SCGS (IP) TJC and Cedar (IP) which would be borderline . SNGS would be much nearer but it does not offer any other 2nd lang other than Chinese. I am staying in Yishun. So what would be your choice? Opt for a non-IP school in Yishun , Ang Mo Kio or Woodlands just because of the proximity?
To me distance is a important factor when deciding school. Imagine school starts at 720am. If bus/train travelling takes about an hour, child will have to leave home by 615am. That mean child will have to wake up by 530-545am. this is the schedule of my kid and imagine he usually have to stand all the way (2 buses) till reach school. Rarely there will be seats for him.nav14:
I am from far North and daughter got a place at TJC. I believe in a small country like Singapore , location should never be a factor especially from Secondary level onwards. Important to get the best school for the child regardless of location. Parents nowdays really pamper their kids with anything more than 20 minutes away being considered too far.
After a busy day in school, he will still have to travel another hour of journey home. But this usually will have seats, unless he come back during peak hours on CCA days.
Kids waking up at 5.45am is quite a norm nowadays.
During my days in school I travelled 60-75mins each way in old non-airconditioned rackety buses and still did well in school.
In my case I will be sending one way and should take no more than 25 mins early morning. -

I hope this is the real positive that you can take away from this PSLE journey with your DS. The journey is still long and there are many goals to achieve. So close this chapter, move on, and don't look back. Good luck to your DS in his choice sec school.PSLE Woory guy:
This year there will be lots of appeal cases going around, with the increase in COP for a lot of schools. Parents & kids, all the Best to you for your appeal. But be realistic and learn to like the school you are posted during registration tomorrow, whilst waiting for your appeal results. I hope whichever school you go, you will be happy!
There will be MANY appeal cases this year.
I am very relieved son got into this first choice sec...whew !!! -

Nav14, as long as you and your child are alright with the travelling time, I dont think you should be concern abt other people opinions. Some parents are just concern abt how tiring your child will be after a long day in school plus long travelling time. Will your child have enough time to revise her school work ? Last time we don't have so much school works riteWhat if the choice is between a IP and non-IP school. BTW, do you know that in corporate world, not many people are willing to take up a job in extreme west of Singapore ! Some people will not even consider companies that are not near MRT station ! Although Singapore is small, some people still think travelling on MRT from Pasir Ris to Joo Koon is FAR!! -

They don't take part in S1 Posting Exercise. They have their own admission criteria and most of the students are accepted via DSA.
Just like SST, they can only have a gauge of COP when they calculate what their DSA students get for PSLE. -

Actually, it will be opposite. Next year COP will decrease. It will be less competitive. Can still try if 3 points below COP.
Looking at this year COP makes me  so Miss Snake must try to target 3 COP higher now just in case ???? -

There will be more new IP schools next year, right ? Whether COP will increase or decrease is hard to tell but cohort size will decrease.
