      becknat68,

you monitor your girl for another one month, or so. Hopefully she'll get used to Jiang, by end of 1 month. She only started the first lesson so far in end Dec 2012, so is still very new. If after one month if she still dislike, either trsf her back to Berries (Berries P1 standard also good / high), or transfer her over to the 1.5 hours Jiang (1.5 hrs is still shorter than 3 hrs). After she get used to Jiang 1.5 hrs three or six months later, then transfer her back to Jiang 3 hrs, it may be easier.

reason is because yr dau has grown so used to Berries method of teaching. Spending 3 yrs there from N2 to K2 is been a long time. Moreover, Berries method of teaching kids is more fun and lively type. Jiang method of teaching - even to K1 / K2 kids, is traditional classroom based, more the \"drilling\" type. Your son likes Jiang, bec Jiang was his first Chinese enrichment centre, as he had never attended Berries before. Different exposure for kids, different result.

      Hi phttph,

my son was with berries for 2 years but he never really displayed interest in chinese the way he did in Jiang. perhaps different child, different stroke.

Yea, I will continue to observe for another month or so and decide if i shd take her out and put her in 1.5hr session. I just wonder if most kids who did berries and trf to Jiang has the same problem anot? My DD said the teacher was gg q fast and no breaks in between. She was gg nuts with the long hours . 😢

maybe you can discuss with the teacher, that happened to my boy before.

i wrote an email telling them to make the lesson more fun rather than just drilling. the next following lesson actually was better, and my boy no longer complain. He has been with them, the 3hour class, for 3years.

        hi Always21,

Wh level was your son when he first join Jiang? My DD said she cried in the class and the teacher asked her to 闭嘴. i was quite appalled by it given that she was saying it to a new student who is only P1.

Did you email the teacher in English or Mandarin?

          becknat68,

maybe next Chinese lesson at Jiang - you can pack a sandwich and a small packet soya bean drink for yr dau, before she enter the classroom. Anytime if she hungry or can’t take it anymore within that 3 solid hrs, you ask her seek permission from her Chinese teacher that she need to take a 15 minute break outside, to munch her sandwich. Ask her go to the General office. There is a small table there she can sit down. She can eat and drink there. After makan, she can go toilet, then go back class resume lesson.

at the same time, you also notify her Chinese teacher beforehand in advance that your P1 dau still not used to 3 hrs so long. Explain to her that she need time to adjust, as such make need a short break if she’s hungry. Notify this teacher in advance, so that she’s not taken aback if suddenly yr girl approach her for a short 15 mins break request outside.

Jiang has breaks in class for the lower levels. Since p1, my son would bring a snack for his class.

Personally, I find the quality of the teachers uneven so sometimes, the feedback on whether Jiang is good or not is dependent on who the teacher is. His results was in the high 90s until there was a change in the teacher and in less than a month, there was a big figure drop in scores.

Thus far, the feedback I had received from those in my circle is they deliver the As (min) and the Distinction/Merit for HCL. Even at secondary school level, they still deliver. And the best part is the time needed is these 3 hours there and their homework is enough.

I email them in English. I did not mention my boy name. I just stated that my boy found the lesson to boring, keeping reading. My boy said that the past teacher has more interaction and told stories to them.

Their reply was that I can talk to the teacher directly but this time she will talk to her.

That was the only time my son complain. Now he is pri4, he still enjoy the class.

              Hope it helps.

My son was also previously from Berries and we just switched to Jiang. However, he complained that the teacher was very fierce and scolded him because he didn’t know how to do the worksheet. Some of the kids also get scolded too. Anyone have this experience?

                  janett,

is yr son’s Chinese teacher the same as becknat68 child’s tr ?
maybe both of you can pm each other, find out.

If indeed the same tr, maybe feedback to management that she too fierce to handle P1 kids. Shouldn’t scold children, if they don’t know how to do P1 worksheets.

My experience in Jiang P1 last year was bad . I noticed teacher did not pay attention on the work sheet completed by children so no point waste $

I guess not all children suited to learn at Jiang. I heard a lot of good reviews about Jiang but when my son attended the classes there, his result deteriorated. Maybe it was our bad luck that we did not get good teacher.

                        Hi always21,

I just emailed her and told her to give my DD more time to adjust to the changes in environment and extended hours and also grant her 15 mins break. Hopefully she will do as told. Somehow for DD, it seems like damage already done as she is quite phobic to go to Jiang now. headache.. :scratchhead: :scratchhead: :scratchhead:
