Hi parents,
Does your child’s math teacher insist on the last sentence for paper 2? My dd’s teacher says she will minus 1 mark if they do not write, but my ds’s teacher did not insist so last year when he took his psle. I find it wierd as it takes time to write that statement. Time is so precious, and I don’t see how this statement contributes to the 3-5 marks. Isn’t working more important for the marks allocation? And if the child copied the answer in the statement wrongly, wouldn’t they be penalised and lost marks then? What’s the logic? -

My dd is usually very nua and reluctant to do anything that involves pen and paper. As an experiment, I decided to schedule something she looks forward to right after homework time, on condition that she had to finish (perfectly) the work in half the usual time. She sat up amd zoomed through everything without fidgeting with anything. So i realised it was a motivation issue with her.
On occasion, I've also found that changing the study/work venue works quite well too. Maybe boredom sets in after staring at the same wall continuously! -

Sometimes I do my own work along with the kids. They like the 'support' and the everyone-working-together atmosphere. My friend shared that she does p5/6 math exam papers together with her kids, who feel less lonely since she struggles more than they do!
When my kids and I go for walks in parks, I surreptitiously lead the conversation to nature stuff that are also science topics in school. Like water cycle, plants etc. To my amazement, a lot of revision gets done verbally with zero pressure and without their realisation!
I realise we don't always have to sit down at a desk to study. For my dd that is a sure-fire way to shut down her focus... and since short bursts of concentration are all she can manage, i work around that lor.

Any good recommendation for tuition center? I know its kinda late, but my chosen center turn out bad. Now gathering info panic mode

My DS is the diligent and disciplined sort...well, most of time. Sometimes, he needs a push but most of time, there's no need to. Had to make sure he remained motivated till PSLE, and don't burnout. Thought a short holiday was a good idea but he was soooo against it. In the last few months before PSLE, my aim was not to add pressure at home, give lots of hugs and TLC, cook his fav food, lend a listening ear and getting him to bed early.
If your DS is already feeling stressed than I think a short break is good...something to look forward to when he is stressed and tired...also both you and him can recharge before the final preparation to PSLE.
Yup, I felt that breathlessness.... And helplessness.... And sudden panic. Don't worry, it'll pass. Don't let kids see. Just focus on what you can do...devise a strategy / plan for revision?.. monitor progress and focus on what he needs to do to get the A*?.. how to reduce the stress and bring a smile on his face? etc. Be there to help, support and encourage.
The whole 2012 PSLE episode has brought DS and I closer...it was difficult...but looking back, it was also memorable.

Your ds reminds me of my ds who sat for his PSLE in 2011. But not for my dd who is sitting for PSLE this year.

People usually say when u hv two children, one will be very different from the other. That seems to be true....for my case.
Your dd sounds a lot like my ds2, too! My ds2 suffers from lack of motivation, poor attitude and likes to bargain / negotiate when it comes to written work. :faint: Very different from my ds1 at the same age.
Yes, it's also true for my case.

i agree with KSmon8. My DD science tutor told tne class to \"enjoy\" the P6 journey. Whether the family takes the examination too seriously or takes it normally, it is only one in the life time experience for the child. Try to \"enjoy\" it.
Enjoy is a strange word to use for P6.
It's a year to drink Brands & Vitamin C to maintain our health and build up immunity. Oh yes, drink more water.
Consider flu jabs for whole family, too! I noticed that after getting the jab, the kids don't have fever if they do have the flu and recover faster.
Sleep early and exercise.... And do something for relaxation. -

Hello, I am a P6 2012 student who just completed PSLE
(haha I'm using my mother's account). Honestly, PSLE isn't as difficult as everyone thinks. So long you put in the hard work, there is no doubt that you will do reasonably well. Its just about the same as a normal exam you know, except you take the exam in the hall and well, the score determines what school you go to.
I think you should set targets- aim how much you want to get for each subject, what school you want to get into and so on and so forth. You (or you should bring your child) to a few secondary school which your child is aiming to enter on the day of the Secondary School's Open House. Well for my case, I was brought to NYGH & RGSS, and I prefer NYGH so i worked very hard throughout the year so that maybe i could get a good score to get into that school.

Also, NYGH is much nearer to my home as compared to RGSS. It is also a SAP school, thus I believe it can help me improve my chinese

The answer statement serve as a final check whether the child work out answer is what the question is asking, if your child is not too slow n can typically complete p2 ahead of the given time, it is actually beneficial to write the answer statement.Hi parents,
