It's clear things are not panning out well for the government in this saga. The government has been put on the defensive so much so many within the PAP ranks tried to talk their way out, thereby muddling the situation more in the process. With many voices come confusions whereas the WP smartly spoke with one voice through SL. The ground and netizens, including TCB, are definitely generating a lot of vibes that somewhat forces the hands of the PM to call for a review of the 2010 transaction. A sign that the by-election for Punggol East is near?

          if they don't review

then how to answer Silver Lim's questions in parliament?

Quite interesting to see how it would pan out. Do they just leave THP up to dry?

but no matter what, the whites still outnumber the rest. They will win where parliament is concerned

          for the by election

perhaps the public may want to know WHO owns the plywood, poster-printing and poster-hanging companies = )

last I heard, they ordering plywood already

Have not read the details but naturally, he need to step in for some damage control and not continue to pretend that it's trivial, which is really what piss most voters off.

                  http://www.tremeritus.com/2013/01/09/wp-files-motion-to-discuss-aim-issue-in-parliament-on-14-jan/

WP posted a note on its Facebook tonight (8 Jan) just before 10pm saying that it has filed an adjournment motion this afternoon for the next Parliamentary sitting on 14 Jan, titled “Safeguarding the Public Interest in Town Council Management”:

MPs file such motions when they want more time to tackle a particular topic. During the 90-minute long question time, the Speaker decides which and how many supplementary questions to allow.

An adjournment motion – which takes place at the end of a day’s sitting – allows a member to speak for 20 minutes.

Meanwhile, on the same day, PM Lee announced that he had asked the Ministry of National Development (MND) to review the computer system transaction between PAP town councils and the company Action Information Management

Will be Mr. Charles Chong's first time as Speaker of Parliament, yes? Let's see how 'balanced' he is 😉

I agree. What upset me was the absence of transparency and the subsequent attempt to trivialise it, which frankly made things worse. If it had been disclosed in the annual reports of the TCs that such an agreement with a PAP owned company existed, I would have been satisfied to leave it as that. The voters in that constituency can decide for themselves, and I suspect many actually do not care.

The PAP should realize that members of Generation X, and subsequent generations, grew up and were educated here after 1965. We had been (on the whole) brought up by the education system put in place by the PAP to believe that integrity, good governance and transparency are to be expected from our public officials. And the demographics shift more towards this every year. This is the new middle ground.

Many of us may not necessarily disagree with much of the PAP's policies. We are not natural opposition supporters or even voters. However, things like this really piss us off. It makes us think whether they ought to be reminded occasionally of the values we had been brought up on and expect of our government, even if we have to pay an immediate economic price for that for the longer term good of our country.

I would have thought that was pretty obvious from the results of the last Presidential Election.
