Popped in to PAP website for a look, and found the PM's speech in note form:

          (source: http://www.pap.org.sg/news-and-commentaries/news-reports/pm-lee-hsien-loongs-rally-speech-english#.UQJlb6XpaS0)

          Thursday, 24 Jan 2013

These are the notes of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the Punggol East By-Election Rally on the last day of campaigning.

          1. Punggol East will soon vote for its MP

          a. Met the candidates
          b. Heard the Rallies
          c. Consider carefully what By-Election is about

          i. Choosing the right person, with the heart and abilities to serve
ii. Supporting a good government that will serve you and your family
iii. A vote for a better life

          2. By working together, we have transformed Singaporeans’ lives

          3. Look at Punggol – today completely transformed

          a. Previously pig farms, kampongs, dirt roads
          b. Now: Punggol 21+, award-winning Punggol Waterway
          c. Same all over Singapore...........
          ..................

:? Wah seh, this is new to me....not even in proper sentences? I know, they're notes, but no one update it into proper article for him meh? i mean, website is for the public right? Speed reading ah? Can someone please enlighten me?
When I heard the part about the pig farms and kampongs, I wondered whether the former pig farmers and kampong dwellers felt offended that their old homes were being referred to in such a negative way. There is no problem with being a pig farmer or living in a kampong, right? :skeptical:

I believe he meant to say that PAP was responsible for urbanising the area, and perhaps improving hygiene standards and providing more facilities for the new residents. However, the way he put it was very snobbish, imho. I wanted to tell him that if it weren't for pig farmers, we would have no pork to eat. :spank:

I used to stay in Blk.194, Rivervale Drive until I was forced to sell my flat by the HDB somewhere in 2009. Initially, I was in arrear of 3-4 months on the payment of my HDB loans. When they kept sending reminders, left with no other choice, we sought help from our ex-MP, Michael Palmer.
Long story short, HDB wrote to tell us that they will arrange some kind of installment payment for us which we thought was something to cheer about. Sadly enough, our joy was short-lived. We were 'chased' once again by the HDB on our arrears. I can still remember very vividly, on one occasion when I received a call from the HDB officer, an Indian lady, when she raised her voice over the phone. Feeling frustrated with her attitude, I shouted back at her. That's the kind of treatment you get when you owe them money.
First of all, I will admit to voting for the opposition in all the elections that were not walkovers.

Why am I sceptical that goldenvoice (\"GV\") is not telling us the full story?

            a. There is no mention of when GV started to be in arrears. Is it 2009, 2008, 2005 or even earlier? In other words, was it a one-off incident or a sustained default?
            b. What is wrong with HDB sending reminders? You mean you expect them to keep quiet for 6 months?
            c. Did GV infringe other HDB rules, e.g. renting out rooms with permission, etc?
            d. Why is there a need to mention race of the lady? What kind of feelings is GV trying to incite?
            e. The HDB that I know is always friendly and very reasonable. As HDB are not measured on their bottomline, they have no profit incentive. Unlike a financial institution, taking back a HDB flat would hardly enhance anybody's (in HDB) KPI. Only persistent default or infringement of HDB rules will cause one's flat to be re-possessed.

Incidentally, even when a person is adjudged a bankrupt, his creditors cannot force a HDB owner to sell the flat to satisfy outstanding debts.....

Wow, such fervent discussions on transport in the earlier posts, missed all the excitement and now read until dizzy. Since we are at the topic of transport, is it a substantial amount for a whole family’s transport expenditure to be around $500/mth (excluding taxi fares) for a family of gross household income of about $5000? I mention gross, that means CPF not deducted yet. Your thoughts?
