All About Market Rates of Private Tutors

Way too high for pri sch. The range for pri sch should be between $25-40, sec $40-70 and JC $70+. Anyway it is hard to say what direct benefit to grades, but at least when there’s a tutor there is some focus during the tuition period.

Hi crazyvt, can you pm me her contact. I'm looking for a Math tutor for my dd. Thx. :thankyou:My son had a tutor who specializes in Sec 3 and 4 Additional and E Maths. She is super good! My son had failed his Sec 3 A maths but after engaging her, he is able to score A2 for A maths and A1 for E Maths in his prelims! Now praying that he could score an A1 for both A and E maths for his O levels!!!
Her rates are reasonable too, only $35 per hour. If i am remember correctly, she has A1 in both A and E maths for her O level as well as an A in her A levels Maths! -
Anything can not use money to 衡量,even if students got A or A *, it is not a big deal, maybe student made his/her own effort enough, tuition teacher just feel happy is ok, for me, I am a school teacher, my tuition students got a good result, I never charged more, just follow market rate.

msbaa:
this is too expensive, way over market rate.Hello Everyone
I met a private tutor for my p5 girl who offered an intensive 1 to 1 coaching for 3 months (math & science total 48hrs). The rate quoted was $180 per hour. Upon completion of this 3 months intensive coaching she will join the group at $80 per hr. Is this the normal going rate for private tuition?
FYI my girl is an average girl but fared badly this year in CA1 & SA1.
Appreciate your comments and welcome any recommendation for tutors/enrichment classes.
Thanks.
i think the maximum i will pay for tuition for upper primary will be 30-40 per hour . -
Skyed:
Would any parent actually hire say a JC student/sec 4 o level student to tutor their child in primary/lower sec? Because I'm a sec 4 student this year awaiting O level results and I was thinking of giving tuition at super low rates but would any parent actually trust their child with such a young tutor?
Yes, you can charge $10 an hour first. As you get more experience and further your studies, you can command a higher rate that is reasonable between you and parents. -
protutor:
Seeking all the parents' advice here, does a charge of $25/h for PSLE student from a tutor with 3+ years experience in private tutoring and in tuition centre sound acceptable to you all (I am an A Level Grad)? I have 3 PSLE students paying that price, but when I quote this price to agency, they told me it was too high and that was only for Uni Grad. They even claimed that I should ask for $15/h instead. So, do parents look more into experience or academic qualifications while choosing a tutor?
you should get your PSLE students parents to help you spread through word of mouth if you want to get that kind of price as their kids have tried and tested your teachings and hence new parents may be more willing to pay that kind of price (as 3+yrs experience is not really very experienced and A level grad is not very high qualification too; so u need word of mouth as testimonial of how good you are). -
hi,
i recently engaged a tutor, who is ex-teacher for abt 3years.She is now teaching tuition as part time n only 25yrs old.I pay for S$45 per hr for teaching english for my P3 son.
can I chk:
1) Is this a normal rate?
2) Agent says no need to chk the tutor certificates, etc…asked her how she knew if the tutor really a ex-teacher,she said if happen to know tutor lies, they’ll blacklist them.
So parents don’t nid to chk.
3) She normally just grabs a assessment book fr. the bookshelf n teach my son. There is structure in her teaching.
4) She makes my son copies the composition from the assessment book, gave him lot of times homework such as comprehension & grammar.I’ve to struggle to teach my son how to complete the homework given by her n fr. school.
5) She always wears "homebased" type clothes(cartoon T-shirt n shorts). She also nvr greet me b4. Came in straight away sit down.Try to ask her few questions but she always seems to be impatient.
Shld I continue to engage her? -
Just to share, there are a few adverts here which claim that the tutors are current teachers… I happen to come across one of the name claiming to be a current teacher at my DD school… I did a check and there was no such teacher in the school at all…

sorry, typo error. There is no structure in her teaching. Is it norm?
the agent said it is normal that tutor doesn’t hv teaching outlines or structure, unlike those in the tuition centre.
