Some need a maid and the maid expenses are a real strain on their budget. If a family with 5 digit monthly income or more says that the levy is too expensive , then is it fair? I think a large number of maids are hired by this group . Some ,if not many, who protest this levy even here in this forum are in this group too.
I would benifit too if the levy is abolished or reduced.
But is this benefitting the society at large? Is this an injustice to a group of people?
IMHO - a resounding NO. -

The reason I support your FB petition is because I think that's a positive way to put across people's message. Like Dora1 posted on other thread, if there is no such avenues, people would just be driven \"underground\" to rant. Just my 2cents la.I will start facebook petition in these few days time, but need some legal advice before I start.

Thank you so much to stating your opinions here. I think everyone has a point, let’s share our thoughts openly and I believe we can benefit from it.
Well, why govt introduce maid levy at the first place? simply because govt thought that ‘Maid’ is considered a ‘luxury’ in a household.
-Yes, may be it is a ‘luxury’ if you are rich and your wife wants to be a ‘Tai Tai’ at home, this group of ppl don’t mind to pay the maid levy.
-No, I believe majority of us are not that rich, we have no choice but to employ a maid to take care of our baby/children/elderly/bedridden family members while we are struggling at work. The maid is not ‘luxury’ but ‘necessity’ for us, hence ‘Maid Levy’ should be abolished if majority of employers are under this group.
We shall not think too much or fear of what govt will do after the maid levy was abolished, Govt always has their ways to make money out from us even if we already paid our maid levy on time.
We just want a channel to express our concerns, that’s all. -
Being an employer of FDW these years, I truly see the needs and also been through the associated "headaches" of having one.
Look around my friends’ households, I truly think getting a FDW is no longer a "luxury". All the pale-faces when late to pick up young children from childcares, mom and dad plus in laws just can’t cope with a few sets of grandchildren etc etc etc.
Although I am not sure scrapping levy is the "right" idea or not, this FDW issue has to be addressed if we want to see birth rate increase. -
