      Intermezzo:
      hi peapot ~

generally i find that Olympus cameras give good macro pix.
(but not all easy-to-use ones will have this function)

Olympus XZ-1 has macro function, and anti-shake mechanism to help make the pix clearer.

and among those i used before, Panasonix Lumix series are pretty good at macro too ~

      hope this helps. 😃
Intermezzo, do you have experience using the Olympus OM-D ? I read a few reviews and it seems quite a good camera.

Let the images do the talking. Go to flickr and search for this camera model and it will show a lot of info/ example.

Importantly, it is the user who like it or not.

        Just my 2 cents worth.

My friend let me play with the OM-D before. The quality of picture is so good. The control of the camera is alright to me. The white balance is just right. A very attractive camera indeed. If got budget just go get it.

If you don't want to get too technical into Photography & would like to venture into it as a hobby, you can read a lot about it on the ClubSnap forum.

I think photography is definitely a great idea to introduce to the young ones, perhaps introduce a related hobby to it like scrapbook making or something? I'm thinking of introducing my 6 years old to photography along with photo book making. Trying to explore his creative side, saw one on my Facebook timeline, P;log(http://myplog.co)/ (http://www.facebook.com/plogYourWorld) helps to create/publish a photo book like as in a professional one, and it seems to look good! Check them out if you have time!

Any other suggestion on what I can do along/in relation to photography?

Is it better to teach them through DSLR of just a simple small digital camera (Sony etc) ??

It depends on what scope the interest is at...But my take is always to begin with Composition, its no point going into technical details when you can't even Frame your subject, so a Simple Camera is always the way to go for a beginner.

Try looking at some work of Professionals, not those self proclaimed ones...There you will learn different various vantage points to begin with. 😄

My kids use my hp to take pictures..

Ok.. On a serious note, a dslr is better if you wanna introduce concepts and technical aspects like aperture, shutter speed, dof etc..

Especially dof, coz most pns have small aperture and cannot isolate subjects well to make the dof impact stand out.

It is also easier to talk about focus when using MF on dslr lens
