Desserts:
Sorry I made you cry, Desserts.. :hugs: It was therapeutic for me to pen that down. Thanks for your note.. yes they have moved on but for sure that accident left a scar in both their lives. It brought father and daughter together. So I see it as a blessing in disguise. Hubs came home early yesterday and hugged all of us tightly.. sniffed the babies loads.. (still got that sweet baby scent) and worried for the two elder girls even though they have been taking public transport on their own for years now. He too felt the ache I did when we learnt of the Yap brothers..Thanks for sharing , buds, it sent tears to my eyes while reading your account. Hope all s well with your dh and dd now. We also had a minor collision last year and the all of us were traumatized.. It was scary.dh had wanted to get a scooter to work too, I told him not to. The bigger vehicles really have no regards of others while on the roads. Hope the L T A really does something to penalize them for driving so fast.
As I read how the mother of the two boys cried inconsolably, Tears just welled up. Recovery will take a long time for them. Let's continue to pray for them to have strength to face each day.
And also perhaps with the stressful lifestyle in Singapore, and everyone wants to meet deadlines, from taxis, trucks, etc.. there s no wonder drivers are impatient. In aus, people seem to be more gracious to let you go first on the roads, you hardly can hear honks.
He said he cannot imagine his own children in similar plight as the Yaps. May God be with them and offer them strength to move on with their lives.
Yes, i agree. Even a short trip to Batam, you can see that ppl honk to caution another driver of any dangers ahead or honk to sound a friendly hello together with a wave and a smile.. everyone makes effort to signal that they are making way for another and hence driving around is not stressful. Everyone looks out for one another.
As for drivers who drive the mega trucks for a living, not all of them are reckless. My uncle is one. Him, my daddie and a few other uncles have even received the good driver recognition. Before any thorough investigation is done, I am not making any judgments. An accident could really be what it is.. a mishap that was not intended to happen. Nevertheless, I am hoping this incident enlightens drivers and pedestrians alike never to take safety for granted. It works both ways. -

Yes, she has. That incident is etched in her memory as part of her experiences growing up and yes, it has helped her be more mindful of the streets when we are out. She is more sensible and is extra careful especially when we are out with the babies.
Thanks for sharing, Buds. It made me tear. Hope your girl is less traumatized by the incident now. :hugs:buds:
Cherish what we have now and not only when we have lost it. Stay safe everyone. Never take safety for granted whether you are a driver or a pedestrian.. Have a blessed new year celebration and bask in the bliss of being around your families.. for there are others who are without.
Hopefully too, unlike me.. she will stay off biker boys.
Thanks for the :hugs:... -

i saw in a post from a website that someone said not to buy bicycles for children when they are not matured enough to be left alone outside and i agree. if they are unable to take care of themselves, wearing helmet is of no use.
Why are they riding bicycles unsupervised?
 -

To take away 1 child is already devastating, how to endure the piercing pain
I shared with DS and DD about the news yesterday. After a moment of silence, DD replied,\"Mommy, I think you should have 10 children...\" :faint:MMM:
 mum asked why never leave behind one of her sons but have to take both away....
of having the lost of both children.....
i shared with my gal too abt this tragic news.....told her that i dont think i can live on without her.....
She sadly replied me, \" mummy......u shd have another child\".....
But i said,\" Nothing can be replaced.....even with another child \".... -

In neighbourhood schools, elder bro or sisters picking up younger siblings is very common scene. I hate to say this but there is some truth in the much criticized article. The parents in neighbourhood schools especially are usually working parents just to make ends meet. And they don't have grandparental support or maids so they just have to entrust their younger ones to the slightly older ones.northernstar:

Unfortunately, kids being kids, they are not as vigilant or prudent as adults when it comes to road safety. -
it is too cruel to their parents.
fate so cruel to take away both sons concurrently. (they only have 2 kids)
somemore, CNY approaching.
so heart wrenching, very painful !!!
full of sorrow -
mummytofour:
Let's pray for the innocent children and the bereaved parents...hope heaven is a much happier place without all these dangers...i sincerely hope someone would start a petition to the govt or relevant authorities to clamp down on irresponsible motorists...very often when i am on the road..you can see those truck drivers (cement mixers, rubbish trucks, tippers etc) driving recklessly on the road as if they got a death wish..what happen to those speed limit devices supposedly installed on their vehicles? What are the TPs and LTA enforcers??? Wake up before more tragedies happen!!
Not only truck drivers, SBS buses also!!! -
It does not matter if one has one child or 10 children. Loosing one precious child is already one child too many and CNY approaching or not does not change the fact that two precious kids' lives have been taken away. There will never be anytime whereby the pain is lesser, festive season or not.
My heart has been very heavy since I read the news
As a parent, my heart goes out to the boys' parents.

Canโt imagine if such happens to me, losing 2 children at a go. I dare not think about it. The boyโs mother must be devastated. The driver of the truck must be feeling extremely lousy too. It is very unfortunate that such incident occurred.
In Singapore, many cyclists do not dismount their bikes but ride across the road instead. There are many near accidents that happened due to such. Drivers may have check their blind spots but out of nowhere a cyclist just dashed onto the road with the traffic light in favour of both the vehicles and pedestrians.
I have also noticed that lately lorries and big trucks are moving at an alarmingly speed on the road. They are faster than a car! They occupied all the 3 lanes on the highway and some even moved on the outer lane for faster cars. Has the LTA increased the speed limit for lorries/trucks? Do they still have the "beeping" sound/light indicating that they have exceeded the speed limit?
I had met with an accident with a trailer who tried to overtake a bus and cut into my lane without signalling. The driver bang into my car and carried on with his driving without stopping. This driver is apparently a non Singaporean.
I hope all road users do your part, either you are a pedestrian or a driver. For lorries/truck drivers please exercise extra care on road cos you are the "Goliath".
May the Lord be with the family of the boys. -

Hopefully no more of such accidents happen again...
