3Boys:
I shared this same speculation to hubs too.One scenario could be that the boys were catching up to the truck at that junction. Just as the driver turned left into the corner, they would have been right smack in his blind spot, and perhaps the momentum of the bike travelling at speed caused them to crash into the side of the vehicle and got pulled under the rear wheels?
Just speculation of course......
And changes nothing about the tragedy.....
Yes, changes nothing of course. The what-ifs don't apply anymore.
Circumstances have gotten my girls taking public transport for years already now. Most times, I don't even have the option of asking the jie jie to even pick mei mei up. The are honestly on their own. I have another 2 babies to look after.. hubs doesn't exactly work fixed hours.. we don't have a helper.. both our parents are still working.
In our case, it does not make financial sense and it's extremely trying going in and out of the house at so many different timings of the day with the babies regardless if taking public transport or push the buggy to and fro school. My only recourse was to slowly let go of the rein and train them accordingly. There are too many safety aspects to cover, so we start slow and steady. I entrust bigger responsibilities as and when they have succeeded with the smaller ones regardless for school days or for play days. I observe as we go along and fine-tune them. Other parents may have the spouse as back-up for school runs and can accompany play-days. I don't.. so we are left to manage on our own.
It's not just traffic accidents these days.. child molesters.. rapists.. bullies.. thieves.. pedophiles.. It's also not necessary coming from foreigners but also from our own peeps. We can only teach a child so much. We continuously update the girls as potential crimes come up.
Anything can happen.. to anyone.
For now, after this incident and sooo many others (crimes)... we can only pray harder.. Going berserk abt every new crime reported will only make the young ones too paranoid to be human. We can only advise and pre-empt but there's no telling when and how things can happen. It can happen to anyone of us. -

I am unsure where exactly is this place. But hearing that it's near Dunman sec school, I don't think it's near to Tampines MRT. It's probably nearer to Pasir/ Changi area. It's probably accessible by feeder bus from Tampines MRT.Anyone can advise how far is this place from the Tampines MRT station?

very far away from Tampines MRT (the MRT is located at Tampines Central 1)Anyone can advise how far is this place from the Tampines MRT station?
Is it walkable?
Can't walk - need to take feeder bus 293, from Tampines Bus Interchange.
The accident took place at the junction of Tampines Avenue 9 and Tampines Street 45.
The younger brother studied in Tampines North primary school, located at
30 Tampines Avenue 9. Public bus 293 go there.
if you click \"Get Directions\",
type in \"30 Tampines Avenue 9\" (ie. location of Tampines North primary school) and also type in \"Tampines Street 45\", then click \"Get Directions\" - you can actually trace how far the older brother had cycled on his bicycle, after fetching the younger brother from the school, before the tragedy occurred.

Chloecube, must be hard on you to have witnessed the accident. My heart is very painful just imagining the scenario. Couldn't sleep a few nights, can't imagine the mum s sorrow. The lady works at the macs near my place.
My dd s studying in Dunman sec and I warned her about crossing the road there. Few years back , a student was also involved in a bus accident, but ok now.
Sun_2010,
The place is not near the tamp mrt stn, think got to take bus 293 from tamp interchange. It s near the all saints home, and opposite Dunman sec.
Meanwhile , let s continue to pray for the bereaved family. The whole nation mourns with them. Think the funeral is today :gloomy: -

My heart goes out to the family … but I would think that the family would like to have the space and privacy to grieve.
And I hope that all of us, be we pedestrians, cyclist, or motorist, remember those boys in our hearts, and slow down, look around and proceed cautiously when using the roads, and always remember to always give way to other people who are slower/ less protected/ more vulnerable than us. -
We don't need to share the same religion to pray for someone, to love someone, or even to mourn for someone. I am sure the Yap family has the whole nation praying with them, regardless of the colour of our skin, family status, religion or whether we know each other or not... I know I am mourning with her and praying with her.
We are bound by our hearts. By all the love in our hearts...
Chloecube, good to know you managed to get some rest. :hugs: -

i saw in a post from a website that someone said not to buy bicycles for children when they are not matured enough to be left alone outside and i agree. if they are unable to take care of themselves, wearing helmet is of no use.
Why are they riding bicycles unsupervised?
i'm also not sure why but i saw before some children are playing at playgrounds or in void decks without any adults or maids around. it seems that the parents are not at home or they are out by themselves.
