Conversely, why cant the teacher speak english? If the principle cant speak chinese, wont there be a communication gap?

      Can speak English doesn't mean it is their duty to translate.

      They dont need to translate. They can just speak in english
How about the parents who cannot understand English?

      If the teacher have to give 2 speech, isn't it akin to translating the MT version to English? Are are you suggesting double work for teacher?

      Many pple are already feedback that teacher have too much burden..

      Why add these unnecessary burdens to teachers? Their code obligation is to teach student, now need to entertain troublesome parents' unreasonable request too?
top school? no big deal....in fact, they're more problematic.

        Oh yes! SORRY if I offend anyone but this is a good point. Top schools attract certain negative side of parents even more.

        I think one of the reason why the school is a 'top school' is because it attracts more of this kind of parents.
I totally agree!

          to add;

          why are primary schools in the Bukit Timah area 'top schools'? definitely not because of the kids, right?

            Btp is not considered a top school, and draws its students from nearby condos, private housings, and hdb folks in Bukit panjang and Bukit batok. It also has a noticeable number of foreign students from Asia, Europe and Australia. It is not a favored choice among locals though I personally think it is a very decent school.

            I think the main draw of ‘top’ schools to some is the perception that they have some formula to turn out top students, and thus attract parents who prize academic achievement and prestige. Another group is attracted by certain available programmes, CCA, and facilities that are not found in "normal" schools.

                      Just joking.
                      Seriously, some mothers can be super snobbish. Not only that, they can't stop showing off the car key.
