sweetbaby:
this round - MOE seminar focus more on schools in Bedok.
Will there be another seminar ? Worth going?
it is good for Bedok residence parents or those staying in the east to attend, esp. those in Phase 2C / 2C Supp / Phase 3.
those schools listed down -
they will send their representatives Teacher(s) down stationed at the booth, to address any question(s) raised by parents.
example:
suppose you are curious / interested in Ngee Ann primary.
You can visit their booth.
Ask their English, Maths, Chinese teacher(s) standing there - what does their P1 curriculum cover ? Can they give you advice or tips how to prepare your K2 child, if you decide to enroll in Ngee Ann ? Besides academic, you can also inquire what sort of interesting CCAs do the school have ? eg: Ngee Ann has calligraphy CCA.
Ask any other concern that you have.
eg: if you're Indian but wish that your child can take Chinese as Mother Tongue instead of Tamil, does the school allow ? You can ask the Chinese teacher there. (if she happen to be there)
think some of you are torn between choosing Tanjong Katong primary or Ngee Ann primary - esp. those staying in Marine Parade vicinity. Some of you also considering Opera Estate primary, St Anthony Canossian Convent, etc. This is the best time for you to visit the seminar, clear up your doubts and concern by speaking to the various Teacher(s) there. Worthwhile to go !
Yes, there'll be another seminar, but it's for another zone / area next time.
MOE will let us know later. -
Thx phttp for your prompt reply

Hi,
I am new here and i will need to enroll my daughter for 2014 P1 intake this year. But will like to know something and hope that mummies here is able to advise me.
I have just bought my flat at Tampines and within 1km are schools like Gong Shan Primary, Chong Zheng Primary & Yumin Primary (these are the schools that i know is good).
But problem here is the completion date of my purchase of the flat is on March 2013. Should i immediately go and change my address on my NRIC to my new home address? Will i be on time for the P1 registration for schools within 1km?
And i see that both parents ID are required when doing the registration. But i am already divorced, child care and control under me. So when going through the registration, is the father’s ID still required?
Thank you in advance for your reply.

There's a grace period for parents moving to the new add. From the infor provided I take it that you will be moving in by Mar/Apr 2013? If that's the case you do not need to worry. The P1 registration starts in Jul and by then you would be living in your new add am I correct?
I'm unable to help with your other qn. Hopefully other parents can help. -

i've a question for Phase 2B - hope someone can clarify.
example
suppose a very popular school under Phase 2B, has 50 vacancies left.
But there are Total 51 2B(Parent Volunteers + Grassroot leaders + SG Hokkien Huay Kwan / Catholic or Methodist or Presbyterian or Anglican Church members, where applicable) registered in this hot, favourite school. Out of these 51 applicants :-
49 are SC (Singapore citizenship) children, staying less than 1 km.
1 PR staying less than 1 km
1 SC staying within (1 to 2) km.
qn:-
will balloting take place - for the last 50th place ?
if No balloting occur - who'll take the last 50th place ? -

The SC who is staying 1-2km will get in. No balloting SC = 50i've a question for Phase 2B - hope someone can clarify.

\"However, if the number of applications exceeds the number of vacancies in a specific phase, SCs will be admitted first ahead of PRs, before home-school distance is considered\"

Thank you for the clarification.

Thus for Phase 2B, once demand exceed vacancies available -
Singapore citizenship takes precedence over distance.
