      Hi All,

Thanks to share so much useful information on how to study Chinese. Speaking and writing Chinese is difficult, but that is not the toughest. The largest challenge, I think, is to think in Chinese and write whatever you think, writing Chinese composition. It’s the headache for most of PRC student, let alone foreigners! How can we improve our kid’s writing skills to score high marks? What do you think?

Reading is definitely the key, but what to read and how to read? Is there any short cut to improve it? Please kindly give your comments.

      Thanks.

        Hi ESWN,

        Agree. It’s really true.

One of my friends recommends the following books, used by PRC student. The feedback from my friends is good. Hopefully that can help your kids too.

        四五快读 (suitable for pre-school kids)
小学生优秀作文 (suitable for primary school student)
小学生满分作文 (suitable for primary school student)

Want to know the secret why PRC children Chinese so good? Their mums can ask friends to send China Chinese textbooks over to Singapore to let their children learn. If say it’s P5 China Chinese textbook, it will be equivalent to secondary 2 or 3 Singapore Chinese standard. The Chinese books read by PRC primary students are those thick novel types, small tiny Chinese font that type of books. U can think how high their Chinese standard is.

                  Hi phttp,

Personally I feel it’s a bit “cheem” for P3 and below, but it’s a good reference book for PLSE and secondary school. It has 500+ pages including all writing skills and top score exam compositions done by PRC primary school student.

I checked that the above composition books are compiled from a list of good compositions written by normal students. There is another series about a compilation of composition by award winning students in Chinese Composition. Maybe can check it out.
