Coaching of Secondary school work
-
Usually in English and Maths esp A Maths in sec3.
Eng forms part of the L1R5 computation unless yr child is good in HCL.
A strong foundation in A Maths is a MUST as H2 Maths in JC, builds on that. -
from my experience, most students who do not do well in secondary school even though they did very well in PSLE are those who did not acquire the right study skills when they were in pri sch.
they did well in PSLE because of tuition and also pri sch syllabus are not really difficult.
Many parents think that since their kids are in Sec sch and thus let them study on their own without any monitoring are making a grave mistake.
The kids need to acquire the right study skills. Only then, they can study on their own with some monitoring. Those without the skills, parents should monitor constantly. -

What is the right study skills ? -
Secondary school students have to learn how to prioritise their school work and not leave everything to the last minute. They also have to plan their own revision with their subjects as there are many mini tests that count towards the exam score. Mind-mapping skills and along with drills and practices, I guess are all part of right study skills.

For me, when dd in year 1, the only subject I am able to \"coach\" is Maths and little of Physics. Chinese is to involve with more discussion with her to give her more ideas. The rest, I really cannot help much. But one role, I am definately is and I always tell her that - Secretary. Helping her do printing works, scanning, photocopying, check some school information online, look out for good guide books, good titles to read up, useful documentary show from cable TV, remind her to drink more water, nag at her its bedtime ....

I am my kid PA since P1. I did most of those works mentioned above and also I teach her tip and trick to complete assesment quicker. I will continue to do so even now (sec 1 next year) as she trust that I can look out for the best materials and give her the best advises and suggestions. -
