Q&A - P3 Science

Extracted this question from CHIJ CA1 question 18. There is a picture of a plant that requires students to identify the parts.
The answer state singular term like flower, root, leaf and stem. Would it still be acceptable to name the parts in plural term as flowers, roots and leaves?
Thanks. -
Hi,
Appreciate someone can help on the following question:
Which plant W,X,Y,Z will be alive after 2 weeks?
Plant W has air, water n sunlight ( no nutrients)
Plant X has air, sunlight n nutrients (no water)
Plant Y has air, water n nutrients (no sunlight)
Plant Z has air (no water, sunlight n nutrients)
Ans (1) W only
(2) X and Y only
(3) W and X only
(4) none of the above
Should the answer be 1 or 4? Answer given is 1.
In the Ultimate Science guide, it states ‘Plants need water, air, sunlight and nutrients to grow’. So not sure do I need to take nutrients into consideration as I understand that basic need of plants are air, water n sunlight.
Also some books will just states plants like all living things need air, water and food to survive. So if in open-ended question like ‘what do plants need to survive.’ What should be the appropriate answer?
Thank you. -
Hi mum2BG
Could it be because the question is only asking if the plants will be "alive" (=survive) after 2 weeks? If the question is asking if the plants will "grow", nutrients shd b included?
Just my wild guess… Also struggling to comprehend the correct techniques of answering Science questions…
Maybe other parents can share their thoughts? -
Look into your kid work book or worksheets to see what the teacher marked for this kind of questions. If I am not wrong, plants only need air, sunlight to make food and water to survive.
I have checked my four guides. Two state air, sunligtw and water to survive, the other two state addition of minerals/nutritions to grow. You can double check with your science teacher to clarify. My kid said nutrition is for healthygrowth, without, should still able to survive for two weeks. -
Living things need air, food, water.Plant make food using sunlight. So I go with answer(1)

This is a very simple question. The answer is 1. Plant W.Hi,
Appreciate someone can help on the following question:

Plant X has air, sunlight n nutrients (no water)
Plant Y has air, water n nutrients (no sunlight)
Plant Z has air (no water, sunlight n nutrients)

(2) X and Y only
(3) W and X only
(4) none of the above

Why? Because without water, plants cannot survive. So Plant X and Plant Z cannot be the answer. Without food, plants cannot make food and will not survive. So plant Y cannot be the answer too. After eliminating the rest, that concludes that Plant W is the only answer. All plants need water, air and sunlight to survive. Without nutrients such as fertiliser, plants can still survive.
Hope I have explained to you clearly to clear your doubt. -

Banana plant is not a tree.
Banana does not have seeds
