It is seriously not a cushy journey having a special needs child when no one ard you seem to understand at all. I hv a special needs child too but he is my second child. My first one is normal. We actually plan for 3 but like lavina, we really get so drained and heartbroken after coming into terms with our boy's needs that we cannot go thr all these once again. Therapies, hospital visits, begging schools to accept him n having to endure some teachers' ugly comments n frenz ostracising him r seriously heart wrenching for any parents to bear.

I have 3 gals, and #3 is on the spectrum. DH wants a 4th one but I say no. Its the same drained feelings, and the fears that the next one will have issues. While the fears may be undue, they are real to us as mothers.

I have read your book too! Not easy to be able to compile a book in the midst of all these issues that need dealing with.

        :salute:

By the way, for those of you who understand Mandarin, you can see Calder and his sister on Catch-up TV. Just search \"I see you episode 7\".

          Hi Phil4v8,
just finished watching the video. you are so very brave. I have trouble holding back my tears even when talking to my son's psychologist, much less the camera.
Have you read the \"All About Autism\" thread here? It is very informative as the mummies are very knowledgeable, supportive and willing to share. Jia You :rahrah:

I wrote the book because I was looking for answers myself. And the book has been very effective in clearing the path for my son. I gave it to his teachers, bus drivers, my neighbours etc. and these are people who would cut him some slack or go an extra mile because they have read about the lives we lead.

The lift is still very much his fav thing but it does not give us so much problem any more.

                      Hi mummies,

I have my 9 yr old elder NT girl and 5 yr old autistic boy.
He is all the way a happy and smily kid, despite of those delays. My girl loves him very much, and have learnt how to deal with the time when he is getting the meltdowns, anxieties, sudden blowouts, etc. She knows deeply in her heart that my hubby and I love both of them very much, but cannot avoid facing my stern face together with my boy when he is not behaving well. She learns the word autism with my explanation. Then she went online to search more info for the topic. She tried to look into the behaviour of her classmates and tried to understand more if they are on the spectrum too. She helps those kids by volunteering in a special school during Saturday morning. She loves her volunteer experience so much that the therapists told me she is a very good role model for those special needs kids.
At home she is my boy’s best companion. Pillow fights, chasing around and taking turns to ask me to save him or her, learn to swim together, take turns to feed the dog, walk the dog together, arguing (yes, they argue almost everyday, you say yes I say no, you say up I say down, that kind of things.) I made my girl do her homework on the dining table so I can coach her and at the same time I can homeschool my boy with both of them sitting by my sides. My boy does not have long attention so one task is only last for a few minutes and then he goes off the table and come back after a short break. My girl is good to show him how he should be doing in future.
Both of my kids are precious gifts from God. They make my hubby and me proud everyday.
