Having an Autistic Brother
-
Yes, when you have a child with special needs, sadness hovers around, almost like a friend. Just today, I received an sms from a fellow parent crying "help!" because she couldn’t find a childcare for her autistic boy. If you know of any compassionate childcare with vacancy, do let me know. This family stays at Sengkang area.

By the way, for those of you who understand Mandarin, you can see Calder and his sister on Catch-up TV. Just search "I see you episode 7".

It is seriously not a cushy journey having a special needs child when no one ard you seem to understand at all. I hv a special needs child too but he is my second child. My first one is normal. We actually plan for 3 but like lavina, we really get so drained and heartbroken after coming into terms with our boy's needs that we cannot go thr all these once again. Therapies, hospital visits, begging schools to accept him n having to endure some teachers' ugly comments n frenz ostracising him r seriously heart wrenching for any parents to bear.
I have 3 gals, and #3 is on the spectrum. DH wants a 4th one but I say no. Its the same drained feelings, and the fears that the next one will have issues. While the fears may be undue, they are real to us as mothers. -

I have read your book too! Not easy to be able to compile a book in the midst of all these issues that need dealing with.

Hi Phil4v8,
just finished watching the video. you are so very brave. I have trouble holding back my tears even when talking to my son's psychologist, much less the camera.
Have you read the \"All About Autism\" thread here? It is very informative as the mummies are very knowledgeable, supportive and willing to share. Jia You :rahrah: -
I wrote the book because I was looking for answers myself. And the book has been very effective in clearing the path for my son. I gave it to his teachers, bus drivers, my neighbours etc. and these are people who would cut him some slack or go an extra mile because they have read about the lives we lead.

Yes I will check out the forum on autism. Thanks for the recommendation, Lavina.
