I guess it helps my DSes are not surrounded by pp who pay for such items. Should there come a day when their friends all advanced to a certain level of a shared game, I hope their resolve will hold strong.

Maybe boys are more competitive in nature and have more desire to win games. Just drum into them the \"whys\" of not paying for \"free\" games. I'm sure they'll be sensible enough to resist when the time comes.

Never give your children the password to your iTunes account, especially if it is tied to a credit card number. Even better, don’t tie any iTunes account with a credit card number - just buy iTunes pre-paid cards to top up the account if necessary. That way, you can limit your "loss" to at most a few tens of dollars.

Yes we lost a few hundred dollars after the kids were trigger friendly with the passwords to buy smurfs jam!

Why do parents allow their kids, especially primary school kids, to download free games? Is there a good reason or need for that?

My kids understand perfectly well that they are not allowed to download any applications at will, regardless free or paid. In fact, my son prides himself for not having any games on his smartphone, despite having a data plan. However, it doesn’t mean they are barred from games. They do play games on ipad (bigger screen) at times. But downloading of stuffs is strictly not allowed.

I don't give the kids password. There was once, after entering password to purchase a free game, they manage to purchase something by clicking on it a while later.

I wrote email to Apple to complain why they allowed such things to happen. They should provide option to users to set \"require password each time\" for purchasing on none free items. Currently, we do not need to re-enter password for subsequent purchases within a certain time period.

                    They refunded the money.

It's only a few dollars but I set my own rules to NEVER pay for any Apps. So I only install Apps when they are free.

iTunes sends email notifications of every purchase made by credit card. Makes me wonder how the parent missed $4300 worth of notifications.

My kids are all on iTunes acct tied to my credit card. I get an email notification whenever they purchase apps/songs. They have been rather responsible all these while (they'll always get my approval beforehand and they bear the costs themselves) but after reading this, now I'm a bit scared.

How/Where can I get iTunes prepaid cards for them?
