      Hi jedamum

Yes, sometimes it is best to put in both answers just to be kiasu. I just do not understand why the teacher used the word behaviour. It would be much easier if they just ask you to predict what happened 20 min later and which characteristic of living things does this experiment show? Anyway thanks for yr reply. Still a lot for me to learn as science was my worst subject.
In lower primary, answer should be short(means precise explanation needed),don't write whatever you know.Teachers encouraged the kids like that.cos they wanted to inculcate the habbit.cannot be write \"it\".You have to say specifically.Need to write full sentence, sometimes the sentence technically correct but for sci, wrong.

        Hi

Can someone pls help me with this que?

2 earthworms are placed in a dish. Half of the dish is covered by a piece of cardboard and the other half is covered by a glass sheet. The dish is then placed under a light source. After 20 minutes later, the earthworms can be seen under the cardboard. What conclusion can you draw about the behaviour of earthworms in this experiment?

        Thanks in advance.
The earthworms respond to changes in their surroundings.
        Or
The earthworms respond to environmental stimulus.

            Hi all,

Thank you for your reply on my question on plants. My kid managed to ask his teacher. Teacher answer is "plants need air, water n sunlight to survive". No need to include nutrients. Nutrients is just for healthy growth.

Different teacher seems to have different answers. As HAPPYH mentioned that her kid’s teacher answer include nutrients.

              Hi all

Need help again. Study the diagrams below (I didn’t post the diagrams) carefully. Picture A is a dragonfly and picture B is a chicken.

Que: based on your observations only, state 1 difference between A and B. Do not compare their sizes, shapes and colours.

The answer given was animal B has feathers but animal A does not.

My ds’s answer was animal A has 6 legs but animal B has only 2 legs and it was marked wrong. According to the teacher, they cannot see the 6 legs clearly. As the diagram was in black and white, I can only see 2 legs clearly but not the other 4 legs.

Can I just confirm any questions which req u to observe the picture, u must be able to see the legs/body parts/etc… clearly. If it’s not clear, u should not put it as the answer?

Don't want to negate or reject anybody's answers above..(upto each individual what you want to take as the correct answer to: banana has seed question)

But to be truthful, all fruits have seeds (unless modified by man to get the seedless variety).

Wild bananas have very large seeds which make then unfit for human consumption. so in past, man only cultivated banana varieties which have smaller seeds (seen as dark speckles or dots if you see the cut cross-section of the banana at center). and this variety is what we commonly see growing all around us.

Thats why it seems like the banana which we buy from fruit shop and eat does not have seeds (but the speckles at center are actually seeds in non-
reproductive form as these cannot be used to reproduce/grow banana plant). This variety of banana will of course grow by using shoot reproduction method.

                http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070627234143AAIBOQh

kindly see the above link which has good explanation (of course better than mine 🙂 ) and also has pictures of wild banana cross section showing the huge inedible seeds...

But in exams how to write the anwer needs to be checked with teacher though.. I am not sure if the science text book actually talks anything about this..

To me, I will do highlight all relevant points about banana seed to my kids so that they can keep an open mind about things..

I do agree with you that wild bananas have large and hard seeds but
usually in local context, the culinary banana that is commonly eaten are seedless fruits.

Fyi, last wk my friend asked me the same question bec her ds's worksheet has this question. Ans given by teacher was bananas have seeds.

Maybe get your kid to double check with his work book or teacher?

My understanding is, behaviour means the reaction. Conclusion of behavior, meaning conclusion of their reaction, will be the earthworm like dark places. Your kid is correct!
Maybe it is just me, I tend to get my boy to nswer at least two points for one mark question. So I would include the respond to surroundings.

You may be surprised sometimes your kid may be right!
                  😄

                  .

FYI my friend's ds put earthworm likes dark places. The answer was correct. I realized in science, it really depends on the marker/teacher, just like the question on whether bananas hv seeds or not. So confusing. :scratchhead:

                    Hi smart mummy

You were right. :rahrah: Few days back, my ds put additional info in his answer. 1/2 mark was deducted.

is it necessary to answer the question in full sentence? For e.g. which plant will survive?

                      Answer 1 : Plant A will survive
                      Answer 2: Plant A

Actually not quite sure… You have me a good point to clarify in upcoming parents meeting with teacher…

                        Will update you on this
