she is getting quite self conscious about her protruding back

I think it is important to let your dd knows that this problem is not uncommon in Sg. No need to feel paiseh about it.

As long as she puts in efforts to correct her posture and prevents the condition from worsening, there is nothing to be embarrass about.

U can bring her to the polyclinic to get a referral letter to see a specialist at KKH Children's Department. http://www.kkh.com.sg/Services/Women/OrthopaedicSurgery/Pages/Home.aspx

Fee will be subsidised. Alternatively, u can just call up for an appointment and pay private fees.

Depending on the degree of curvature and the age of your child, they would advice what can be done. Some wear the soft brace.

My dd has gone through Chiropractic treatment (not in Spore) and we don't find it useful. It's a long term treatment (2-3x a week) and rather expensive.

She used to swim daily in school but it doesn't help to correct the curvature. However, I am not sure that, if she didn't swim, would it have gotten worst.

Now at 15+, her height has stablised. Due to scoliosis, she would not grow any taller. I started her on Pilates so that she can maintain a better posture and also to prevent and aches/ pains in the future.

To me, having scoliosis is like having crooked teeth. One is born with it. Dd inherited from me. She has learned that it is something that affects many and she should not be upset/ embarrassed about it.

Last year my daughter went there and did a 2 week intensive treatment with was quite ex… over $4. But we were desperate as the doctor at SGH had recommended surgery. She went there daily and did all that was recommended and xray showed the scoliosis had gotten worst. This is my own experience and wished we never did the therapy there at precision and saved our money. Hope this helps.

              Hi, just to share.

My friend’s 11yo daughter was diagnosed with scoliosis, she went through 1.5 years of spine chiropractic. She paid a total of $14k for the "treatment" that yielded no result, but delayed and worsen her condition.

You should go to an orthopedic or seek treatment from a physiotherapist.

              Best wishes.

I sent my son to therapy for his scoliosis last year and after 6 months there was NO improvement and cost us over $7000. Even worse the doctor marked the xray as if there was correction. Luckily we checked with our family doctor and they told us the right degree and in fact his scoliosis had worsened! Also my doctor was surprised that Will Kalla sent us for so many xrays when all he needed was the scoliosis one as he took others like neck… maybe he gets a commission from the radiology clinic?

I wish we never went to Precision Spine and hope others do more research when looking for scoliosis treatments. Talking to other mums in our support group they also agree. Its sad when there are others out there preying on other peoples desperation.

Well don't have experienced yet with doctor who work for scoliosis treatments. But know well about chiropractors,Chiropractors are like magicians , they particularly know well about how to get you relieve from your spine related problems. My friend have experienced them once as he has been suffering from http://chirohealing.com/chiropractic/common-conditions-treated/back-pain-lower/ and doctors recommend him to take medicines but they won't work well for him. Then in the last he visit a chiropractor , after three months of treatment he's well now .Chiropractors are good solution to such problems.

In Singapore I have found only 3 doctors who specialist treating scoliosis without surgery. Out of them im most impressed with Dr Kevin Lau as he has a number of positive results posted on his website https://hiyh.info/results/ and he's an international author of many books about scoliosis. I even spoke to a number of other parents who send their kids to him with positive results however its depends on the dedication of the child to do what he recommends.

Hi Gilian you should try a chiropractor. There is a free spine check by Chiropractic First. This is the link if you are interested, 😂 http://www.chiropractic-first.org/free-posture-check-for-kids
