            Different school, different cca.

For cca, best to go to the respective school website, to check.

need to start planning which CCA for your child.

because different cca - different expectation(s) required.

                example:

                i) swimming - for some school(s), swimming is compulsory from p2 onwards.

some parents may want their child to start learn swimming at K2 now - so that when throw them into the swimming pool in P2 Term 1, at least their child can float in the water, instead of fearful, very scared of water.

Another issue is safety. Normally, one CCA teacher will bring many kids to the swimming pool. The teacher may not have attention on every single child. So if your child is able to learn at least one basic swimming stroke & can float, child is safer - compared to another child, who totally doesn’t know how to swim at all.

                ii)
for some CCAs like squash, tennis, badminton, table tennis, bowling -
you may want to start your K2 child now, if you’ve the intention to groom your child to join the school team. Then it is better that you start from P1. Joining at P3 is too late. Because some CCA teacher(s) start to spot and identify young talent(s) at p1, then start to groom them, to participate in their school team, for future competition.

                iii)
some CCAs like ballet (example) -
where you intend to DSA your child into Secondary schools like SCGS (for example) - it is better to start from P1, rather than wait until P3. For this type of CCA, your child must meet a certain minimum target grade, then can DSA; the requirements expected are stated in the DSA application form. But if you do not have the intention to use this CCA to DSA (Direct School Admission) into Secondary school, then no need.

                iii)
but for certain CCAs where you perform in a group basis, for example: choir -
this, then maybe child can join at P3.

so it all boils down on what CCA you’ve in mind or intend, for your child.
is your expectation(s), plus most important: interest from your child. Interest and passion from child will sustain long.

                  Faintz..

Nvr think so far.. Ds n dd1 have had swimming lessons for a yr plus.. den we stop due to us moving.. when we settled down.. there simply wasn't time left for them to contd their swimming lessons.. though ds would have completed his swimsafer 1 if he had contd..

Now ds is in badminton team for his sch n soccer externally.. he is P2 tis yr.. as for dd1.. though nxt yr P1.. i have not tot of wat is ideal for her.. :scratchhead:

                    Minty min,

is your daughter going Tao nan?
is good to groom your girl in music, dance, graceful.

can consider let her try p1 Guzheng, pipa, ballet or Chinese cultural dance. Or cello or violin. It’s good to expose your daughter to a balanced mixture of both Eastern & Western music & art cultural influence(s), tradition(s).

We don’t want our daughters grow up only academic - wearing those thick, thick glasses.
For boys, good to let them learn erhu, or learn some wushu. Because grow up 18 year old after enter army, they become men - need to protect family one day.
