mummyJune:
Did you daughter answer her when she call wrongly? Sometimes, my mil will also called my kids name wrongly. N I simply tell the kids if that is not your name, you do not need to answer.my mil doesn't know how to pronounce my daughter's english name. my daughter's name is Claire yet she kept pronouncing as 'clear'. Already i corrected her so many times yet she still call my daughter 'clear'. even my hb niece & nephew also call my daughter 'clear'. Until i fedup i told mil if u duno how to pronounce, pls call my daughter's chinese name. she show me black face & even complain to her relatives i was making a big fuss.
Even sometimes at gathering, mil still call my daughter 'clear' on purpose. Hb said his mum is very very stubborn. will not admit to her mistake even though he corrected her many times.
So what do i do? each time mil calls my daughter 'clear' i still continue to correct her?
or just ignore her? but i feel so uneasy when she calls my daughter wrong name.
After a while, if the kid do not respond, I am sure your mil will try to call her name correctly to get your daughter's response. -

with mil so stubborn & refuse to call my daughter her correct name, my hb always said just take it with a pinch of salt...sooner or later when my daughter grows up, she will correct mil... -
My student’s name is Christopher but his grandma calls him fishball. It’s a small matter. He is 10 this year. He just grins when he hears that.

To many it is easy to pronounce words correctly and easily. But to others it could be a problem.
I have a problem with "th" so Nathan sounds totally differnet when I say it. -
mummyJune:
I think it depends on whether it is purposely or unintentionally . If it is unintentionally, eg, too difficult for them to pronounce, then it's fine n no point getting angry.

But if she is stubborn n purposely called it wrongly on purpose, then it is another issue. -

:rotflmao: How did Christopher morph into Fishball? Terms of endearment.

Poor grandma pronunciation. His grandma has lesser teeth and not educated so I guess he just has to live with the fishball name.TheAnswer:

I would say forget about this mis-pronounciation, intentional or not. Not worth the time n effort to dwell on it.
