Daddy will always play GOOD guy...but I told him if he wants to spoil, I will push everything to him...planning revision, liaise with tutor, discipline issues, school and household stuff. Then I sit down and watch TV or play games.

When I caught them watching TV last night, I asked my son if geography is taught on channel 8...asked daughter if that Taiwan drama will help her pass spelling and asked hubby if he was watching news. :nunchuk:

It may be a good idea for you to go 'on strike' for a week or so? Just leave the kids to study as much or as little as they want, and let them suffer the consequences. Nothing like suffering a bit for them to learn self-discipline.

But it's only sec 1 and only SA1, so it's the least 'risky' time for the foreseeable future. Sec 1 results don't impact his future much, if at all, and if he learns discipline and independence, any drop in grades will be worth it. There will still be time for him to pick up before the end of sec 2, and once he has learned his lesson, it will be easier in sec 2. Similarly for your daughter too, there is still a long time before PSLE. I remember I tried 'letting go' more when my older girl was around P5, but it didn't work as she was just unable to cope because of her learning issues and weakness in planning and organisation. But we tried again at sec 1 because we felt that it was the best time to do it and it worked quite well. She's still not perfect, but I don't need to hover over her like I used to.

Agree wf u. My dh asked me to let go,let him study on his own n bear consequence by himself. My son is also P3, there r many homework to do, revision to catch up n CCA.Yes, indeed,he also has learning issues n unable to plan for himself.

At times, i let go,if he refused to listen, i just didn't bother n he would take out the homework n do by himself, however,by the time he did that,it oredi very late in the evening where everybody is rather tired from work n hsework, yet, still to hv to coach him.

The schedule is always very rushing. They've tests,SA,oral/compo test, everything come together right after term1 break.

just like what u mentioned b4,if u notice the plant is going to dry out, will u leave it or water it??

For sec 1, I leave it to him. Can’t possibly be holding his hands.

He will do his work…or else face punishment.

For the younger one, she is slower…knew about this since she was in P1.
The CA/SA every 10 weeks AND daily Math homework seems overwhelming.
                  I feel suffocated.

For non-trivial stuff like spelling, I really want to let go…my dear girl came home with 2/10 and a comment, ‘did you study for this?’

PSLE may be 3 years away…but I cannot possibly watch this growing plant wither in meantime and then start looking after it when it reaches dangerous stage. Last year’s experience with PSLE was a rude awakening.
I asked hubby…are we looking at the big picture (ie PSLE) or short term?
Answer: the short term effects lead up to big picture.

That hubby at home makes my blood boil sometimes...he never practise what he preach...we agreed NO TV but he switches it on, saying he wants to watch news...after that, he doesn't switch it off

If I am hanging laundry or doing something, then father, son and daughter will all be watching channel 8. Kids will get a shock when I walk into the room.

Sounds very familiar. I scold my daughter including my hubby.

I also scold them all. I'm the MAD Mother Hen.
You see boys never grow up. So Daddy is just like another boy in the house!

I know this friend has 4 kids (3 boys and 1 girl)…when she mentioned ‘5 kids’ at one gathering, I thought she had #5…until she clarified. Husband is the ‘5th kid’.

So, I will always be ‘pai Lang’…hubby tells kids, ‘I am ok, but your mother isn’t.’

Last night DS no.1 told me that he has music test today. \"Mommy can you teach me??\" I tested him out a little and fell off my chair. :yikes: So had to drop all the work and help him out with his music. Art also need help so have to start teaching him. Everything also need help! Wah, Sec 1 really headache!

This morning I made him sing out the notes and practising his finger positions all the way to school while hubby drove.
