      phantom:
Heard that learning music or piano will help a kid to be more creative and uses their right brain improving memory. Anyone's kid has been to piano courses? Does it helps in improving their memory?

Dunno. My kid has been doing piano since he was 4 and he still can't remember what he had for breakfast. But he remembers the room number of the hotel we stayed in Australia 6 years back. So it depends on whether he wants to remember or not.

Wow, your son must have did something interesting in Australia back then to remember the room number. I can't remember those things

Is artistic talent in-born only, or can it be grown? Most kids naturally love to draw and sing. We parents tend to take this as a sign that our kids have artistic talents and try to send them for enrichment courses to hopefully groom the talents.

What are the signs that your child exhibit that made you send him or her to the art classes?
I think in a way, all abilities are born. But it can be cultivate and trained.
But the genius ones usually the in borne ones. All the classes only serve to develop and release the potential.

Not to say that normal people cannot enjoy art and music. I play a lousy piano, but I still get a kick out of it.

As for art, I have never been to a proper art class. Only to a design one. And surprisingly, my classmates in my design course, cannot even draw. hmmm...But people around me tells me that I can draw. Somehow, it is quite effortless to me to mimic any picture that I see.

I think all children can be taught how to draw beautifully, but to stand out from the rest, the child usually has in-born talent. There’s this extra X factor in the drawings that distinguish the ONE from the rest that are drawn well but are ordinary.

I’ve a friend who didn’t go for any art lesson, but she could draw really well. She loved fashion design and when we saw her drawings during our sec sch days, we were amazed that the way she drew the figures/clothes were very professional! They really looked like those that you could only find in fashion design mags/bks.

for art classes, i think they hold them in Yamaha for quite a few years now! or you can check with your CC..

about perfect pitch, i heard that kids who converse in tonal languages (languages with tones - like mandarin) tend to be more likely to have perfect pitch  mostly, it's inborn, though.. and not a Must if you're interested in music anyway 😄

~ We worry about what a child will become tomorrow, yet we forget that he is someone today.

How about kids who cannot draw beautifully but simply loves to draw, paint and doodle? What category are they?

My child does it for self-expression, whether nice or not is not an issue at all! So the nature part of her is love to express, the nurture part is to guide her how to be more mainstream and acceptable in the expression dept otherwise it may eventually become abstract? I remember her first drawings of people look like aliens.

But I believe those who can do well are born with the talent.

I have the same sentiment too. However, children endowed with nature without nurture will just have their potential unrealised. Children without nature but is being nurtured will have the opportunity to move forward.
