President Barack Obama on Thursday visited the College Heights Early Childhood Learning Center in Decatur, Georgia, where he elaborated on his plan to expand preschool dramatically - a focal point of his administration's second-term education agenda.

Obama told teachers that his proposal aims to give every child early access to a high-quality education.

President Obama wants to see that every four-year-old child gets the chance at an excellent education despite the income level of their parents, and he is pointing the country towards Georgia, where an excellent system is already in place.

Hi parents! Do you have a good Montessori playgroup for 18 month old to recommend near Punggol and/or Serangoon area? I’m looking for those few hours playgroup. Hope to find one for my child.

I’m a SAHM currently so I’m considering half day child care or a few hours playgroup, whichever good ones I can find near my place. For childcare, I have already shortlisted a few but I can’t seem to find a montessori school easily, esp since they are not listed under MCYS’ childcare link website. TIA!

There is a Character Montessori at Ponggol near St Anne Church. The one at Ang Mo Kio not so good. Keep changing teachers and they don't really teach full Montessori. Not sure if the one in Ponggol is good. Can go check on their teacher quality and curriculum. May be you can request to sit in a few days to observe?

Who says boys can't have fantastic fine-motor skills? Montessorian boys are the best examples of boys having refined motor skills. This enables them to have great pincer grip that is so great in preparation for tracing, future writing and self-feeding... without the mess! :rahrah: My tiger_chubs self-fed when he was only about 14mths thereabouts and even then there was minimal mess if any. If there was, he even knew how to clear it up. :please:

We've been working these stuff at home..

              How about you? 😉

PS. Will find time to share more about the refinement of fine-motor skills.. 😄

This is great, buds! My boy is 18 month old and he has taken a keen interest in self feeding. But his motor skills lacks way behind his verbal skills. He kept insisting "kieran feed" n does not allow me to take his spoon to feed him. But he’s messing up, food accidentally slipped out of the spoon which he holds slanted, slipped out of his mouth when he miscalculated when it was sent into his mouth, thrown out onto floor when he used too much energy in frustration that he cannot scoop up the food properly. Really a big mess!

Few months before, we trained him to scoop up his small square blocks with big spoon n transfer from one bowl to the next. That’s how he got interest in scooping n feeding himself, I guess.

So how do I train his motor skills more n reduce the mess? Or is it just a developmental thing?

                  Hi

Does anyone have review of Josiah Montessori at Changi Business Park? Their Simei branch has been tentatively moved to Changi Business Park too.

My boy is turning 2, considering if that is a good school to send him after 2.

                  Thanks

Does anyone have other montessori childcare to intro too? I am staying around clementi.

It has been a long time since i last came into this forum… and finally… i enrolled my son to a montessori based school after brain washing my hb!!! EYM… and realise that there a ppl talking about this school…

I went for the school observation. I would say that the kids there are very well behave. They do things on their own and they are quite independent. Their theme for this term is Marine Life and by now they have brought them to the Marine life park…

Further to that, during observation, I notice the kids asked intelligent questions…

After half hr of observation plus talking with the principal, finally decided enroll him there…

p.s. the principal is a bit weird though… but it doesnt bother me… hahaa…

The next qn is… after putting him in a fully montessori based school, should i bring him out for a more academic based school in K1 or K2 as a transition period to Pri 1.

Still worrying about him not able to catch up in Pri 1 and lose interest in learning vis-a-vis stressing him too much… stress
