What would it take to transfer to Paya Lebar Methodist Girls’ Secondary School with a lower PSLE score?

To transfer to PLMGS with lower T-score, your child can appeal base on strong CCA such as music, sports.

PLMGS girls are generally well disciplined and has good values as the school emphasize greatly on character building. The principal believes character comes before academic results. The school also has a strong parent support group.

My personal viewpoints are:

If you are a super kiasu parent, then better :siam: siam. The pace is pretty comfortable for the above-average achievers. But if you are looking for a place that can cultivate good christian & moral values for your DD, this is an excellent one. :rahrah:

My DD has become so 'tamed', religious & well-mannered ever since she was enrolled in this school. If you are Christian, it will be an extra bonus for you.

Still you need to look at the individual's attitude of learning. Though the overall results are not very impressive, there was a pupil who managed to obtain 10 A1s for 'O' levels last year. There are also studious pupils whom I know who gather in church to do group studies.This school has achieved the value-added status & the most prestigious School Excellence Award.

The teachers & leaders I interacted with are, so far, very approachable, sincere, reasonable & understanding. (A great contrast to my DD's non-affiliated primary school). They have e-surveys for parents to assess their teachers & rate their satisfaction with the school at the end of term 2, which I think is superb.

As a parent, I particularly like the Term Test schedules. i.e., whatever they learn in this term will be tested in the following term, which means the girls have the entire holidays to prepare and catch up before they are being tested. Otherwise, it is very taxing to prepare for exam amidst those curriculum & CCA like what most schools are doing. Morever, their holidays will be 'well-spent'. Again it depends on how parents view it. Some may think their kids should deserve a good rest during the holidays instead of having to study for the exams which usually fall on the 2nd or 3rd week of the new term.

Also, their overseas CIP is compulsory for all Sec 3, unless there're valid reasons, I presume. Some parents are uncomfortable with this.
But I find that they are very meaningful for our younger generation to learn about compassion & sharing with the less privileged. I am particularly impressed that the pupils were taught to teach these under-privileged the importance of working hard to support themselves when they grow up. They reward poor families who are willing to work hard with provisions brought from Singapore but exclude those who idle, as identified by the authority.
Also, the school will arrange various immunisations for our girls before the trips. Some schools do not take this extra precaution.

I am also interested to find out the pace of lessons. My DD is in PLMGS Primary so she say as long as she get below 245 will go to PLMGSS. Her marks are around that range so there is a extremely high chance of coming here. Also, How many classes are there in each level and what are the number of students per class?

I would also like to find out if the demand for students joining band is high. if my dd has no musical background in band instruments but has piano background, what are the chances of her getting into band?

Lastly, are the seniors friendly and helpful there? Are there any bullies too?

It will be nice if a PLite can answer these queries.

My DD graduated from paya lebar MGS last year. Our experience has been positive. Teachers are very caring. During the period running up to O levels, the teachers will be rostered to stay back and accompany students who need to study in school till about 9 pm. They also thoughtfully prepared food/snacks for the girls in case they were hungry. I would strongly recommend this school to any parent considering it.
