I had just feedback to the school office. This morning the bus aunty still letting the kids to watch the wrestling show. Think no point talking to her.
Now waiting and see what the school will do. Hope they able to help. Really don’t like my kids to watch such Program earlier morning. Best is no TV of course. Haih… -
very quiet thread :peekaboo: hope this post find our dear P1 children enjoying their stay @ OEPS.
term 1 assessments coming ... this term for P2 there is no show-N-tell but something new to me, \"English Running Record\", which pupils will be given an unseen text and they will be accessed individually on their accuracy of reading the words in the text. hmmmm ... interesting
me getting back to work ... have a good week ahead! -
Dear all,
Happy New Year!
Got to register my boy for P1 this year & really not sure what to do. Been looking OSPS recently (BTW, we are staying at chai chee rd ). Frankly speaking, we are actually looking for other school but the chance is like… anyway, how is this school? did checked the website that only 3 school is within 1km from our house. Does it mean that the registration should be okay? Thank you. -

Hi Star8888,Dear all,

based on past years registration, I believe is quite easy to secure a seat in OEPS. However, nothing is guarantee
my boy is in P2 this year, so far I don't have much concerns pertaining to the school, except the school location. Different parents have different set of expectations, hence you may like to be slightly more specific in which area you like to know more and parents here may be able to share some of their experiences.
For eg. I did receive PM with questions on type of CCA in the school offers. Some parents like their kids to major in certain sport in order to help them in getting into certain sec sch. Think very far hor ... ...
Academic wise, this term, homework allocation still on light side which I have no complaint cos this help me better manage my boy strength and weakness. If there are too much homework, and I still introduce supplementary exercises on topics he is weak in, that most likely going to turn him off.
nowadays there is no exam for P1 and P2, but there are bite-sized/topical tests, show-and-tell, ask-and-tell, listening compr, running records, etc to assess them. Very different from my time :scratchhead:

Dear Bakebean,
Thank you v much & you are always so helpful
.
BTW, I'm going to attend the seminar (preparation for P1) on coming Sat. I'm a little bit panic now...
Can you tell me more about \"A student care is setup within the school compound\"? Understand the OEPS is having 1 session now rite? Noticed your sharing a few student care which is one of things that i concern.
Although there is no exam at P1 & P2 and the preparation is also important and K2 kids are given the spelling every week now of this day. Sometime I really feel sorry to pushing my boy hard.....

hi star8888,
yes, oeps is running on single session, curriculum is fr 0730-1330hr. The student care is newly setup and I don't have much info except bits and pieces of sharing from my boy's classmates who enrolled. The students will report to the center within the school premises after lessons and change into the center t-shirt before proceeding to canteen for their lunch. There will be staff supervising the students during \"homework\" time. students either fetch by parent around 6:30pm or go home by school bus.
for more details, you can contact the school general office.
Every stage has it milestone, yes, no exam does not mean not important (^.^) Personally i believe in setting targets and routine. kids usually dun hv time discipline and tat why 1hr of play is like 10min , yet 10min of work is like an hr to them.
homework / practices are essential, of cos we try not to overload kids. i always try my best to project to my boy that homework, study, practices are just another activities. He can't be playing the whole day and he needs to learn to accept challenges (both games and work). likewise, learning spelling can be interesting too.
i am always happy to see parents preparing themselves and kids for every millstone
Enjoy every moment you work together with your kid! -

leadership in a school is very important. -
Dear all, glad to find this thread. Unfortunately the school’s website is unavailable. I’m staying in Chai Chee St and my girl will be going to primary 1 next year. The chances of my girl getting into St Anthony Canossian Pri is very slim. My other options will be either East Coast Pri or Opera Estate Pri. After reading this thread, I’m liking this sch already. Having students from different cultural backgrounds is not a bad thing.

Hi
I’m considering this school for DS registration this year as its near one of the grandparents place. Current parents : How’s do you find the school? Is it holistic? Is the class sizes smaller since its less popular? How’s the school bus service? Is pick up areas limited? Do they also provide pickup times for CCA days? Thank you. -

Hi sweetbaby,Hi
I'm considering this school for DS registration this year as its near one of the grandparents place. Current parents : How's do you find the school? Is it holistic? Is the class sizes smaller since its less popular? How's the school bus service? Is pick up areas limited? Do they also provide pickup times for CCA days? Thank you.
Before I get into the list of questions, let me briefly share some background. My boy is currently P2 and taking table tennis as CCA. I send him to school every morning and he takes a mini school bus back to my parents’ place in Macpherson estate after school. During CCA days (every Tue & Thur, 2-4pm), I will fetch him from school.
How's do you find the school?
This is kind of general
Overall, I am happy as long my boy is happy. My boy does not have major negative feedback and able to get along with most of his friends and teachers.
Is it holistic?
Hmmm … OEPS offers Programme for Active Learning (PAL) which I am not sure has PAL been implemented islandwide. http://www.moe.gov.sg/media/press/2010/09/developing-skills-and-values.php
Programme for Active Learning (PAL) aims to give children the chance to discover new interests, learn new skills and build their characters. This will also provide children the opportunities to develop confidence and forge new friendships. Holistic? Well, imho, no one system fits all kids
Anyway, my boy enjoys most of his PAL lessons.
Is the class sizes smaller since its less popular?
For the past 2 years, the school P1 took in 180 students and each class has a max of 30 students. If the intake reduces, I believe is the number of classes will be reduced, and not the students per class.
How's the school bus service?
This is a question involving many components such as driver, other students on board, type of buses (11/16/40 seaters, etc), individual expectation... ...
My boy clicks well with his school bus “fierce fierce” uncle who speaks loudly and “scolds” other drivers along the ride. At the beginning, my boy used to complain that he needs to help others who alight before him to close the sliding door. After sometime the kids and driver have came to some consensus LOL … to me, safety comes first and no major communication issues, I consider the service satisfactory.
Is pick up areas limited?
You will have to check with the operator directly.
Do they also provide pickup times for CCA days?
They do, but I am not sure about the charges. Again, please check with the bus operator.
I hope my reply helps
