Suspect my maid has PT job on Sundays
-
MOM wants to protect maids from working at 2 or even 3 places.
This problem of maids moonlighting arises when they have off days…got pros and cons. if maids get off day (put aside moonlight), they will have to shell out money to take transport and buy meals, which lets them know value of money. prob is these maids get brainwashed by their ‘friends’…coming back to compare what they have to do.
if maids moonlight doing housework, that is better than them serving clients in budget hotels. -

The MOM ruling on maids working only at the registered address is to ensure that employers don't force maids to work two or more households (eg at the mil's place plus home) or at hawker stalls or family shops etc. I do not think it was put in place to get employers into trouble if their maid works part time without the employer's knowledge. Given that, MOM should not take action against unaware employers.
True, but guess who gets called for coffee should anything go wrong. -

who else...employer lor...maids are always innocent even when employers drink/eat food spiked with soap powder or urine.jtoh:

i remember there was once i called MOM in my toilet :faint: told officer to expedite the work permit for new maid bcos the present one then was going to make me jump off the building. -

I have given the house address in detail. Unfortunately, MOM can't do anything because I don't have the detail when and where the maid's PT houses.
Sounds like a lucrative (illegal) business for her employer. I would report it!
To think abt it, I also don't really mind if maid do PT doing housechore in ppl houses instead of hanging ard with bad companion, having bf or worse selling their body. But knowing it's illegal makes me worry. -
I just called up the MOM regards to maid moonlighting without employer’s knowledge or injured herself while doing p/time. She said employer is reliable for the maid.
I would suggest, to lodge a police report follow by a complaint/feedback to MOM against the maid.
The only way is… all of us to write in to MOM to remove the off day from 4 days to 1 day. -

Its words against words. MOM handle such cases daily. They will know if maid is lying or telling truth only after few session with employer. For my case, because I knew it but didn't stop her. I was given warning letter for maid action. Do you think its fair?
officer quoted one case. Maid complaint employer made her wash plates at mil pl. I didn't know its not right until officer said maid is not suppose to do house chore except WP stated address. So I asked officer, 'can I ask her sit outside corridor n eat? Also give her a pile of water to wash her own plate?' -

How come you never ask the officer, \"can push the baby's pram downstairs\" or \"can buy vegetables at the market?\" -

These MOM officers are low-ranking officers. They can't do much and don't want to do much. Basically, they just go by the book and do what's expected of the job scope. Won't go the extra mile and won't think out of the box. Doesn't help to antagonize them though bec they can make life difficult for you by issuing warnings or blacklisting your file.jtoh:

Yes agreed. That’s why my advice is to endure & keep fingers cross or send Maid home ASAP. No matter how we argue, once maid misbehave, its employer’s fault. No need waste time on complaint
MOM = ministry of MAID -

Yalor. They can only advise you based on what the laws provide for. Just like speeding, if you are not speeding excessively, ie, a few km above the limit, they might just issue a warning if kenna caught.

As for maids moonlighting, I believe this has been going on for long long time. I believe the law is more to protect the maids, ie, the employers donch 're-sell' their services and make money or other forms of returns out of it
