Aiyah, the older boys may not bully but will teach the younger ones weird stuff. So you gotta keep open communication with your kid. I always tell my boy that I cannot prevent him from learning those bad language coz he will learn them in NS anyway, but just becoz you know doesn’t mean you have to use them.

The teachers at the centre will teach the concepts. But students are encouraged to attempt the work by themselves. School teachers wouldn’t want the centre teachers to correct the kids’ homework. Kids learn by making mistakes.

        That is the concern, cherrygal.

If a child is placed in an after school care centre and is "taught" or catch on some bad habits from other kids, is no good. Kids in student care can be rowdy

Kids will learn bad things anywhere, even in top schools.

We cannot prevent, it’s only a matter of time. All we can do is to teach them what is right and wrong, and always maintain communication with the kids.

So far, I think there are more pros than cons with regards to using student care centres. Still better than getting a maid to watch your kid do nothing productive. Centres are good for typically lazy kids who would otherwise end up staying home watching TV and playing computer games after doing homework.

Better for kids to get some daily revision done, interact with kids his age and develop some good friendships. Majority of the kids there are good kids lah.

My cousin took her son out from external student care because her boy picked up the wrong habits and discipline was lacking in student care. Eventually, she packed her son to the grandparents’ place instead with a timetable and external tuition for her child. That’s why it’s important to get inhouse student care in Pri sch if possible. For external student care, check on how they handle discipline issues with children. Parents can observe how the children behave during parents pick up time like late 5 plus to 6 plus in evening. Your observation will be the best verdict if that particular student care is suitable for you to place your child in it.

Thank you very much for your comments. Yeah, i also agree that parents influence is important. hmmm based on the comments it seems that IJ toa payoh is not bad though it is a big school. Hope my girl can get good teachers as teachers are very important. Unfortunately, there is not much co-ed school around toa payoh if not can consider co-ed school for her.

You can check with existing parents' network for Red Swastika -> http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=4375&start=1760 on more information about the school.

You can confirm which phases you belongs to in this link and how long you need to wait for the release of result based on last year's detail.-> http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/primary-one-registration/phases/
