sweetbaby:
roughly what the estimate cost for student care? any subsidy?

Student care subsidies

Student care centres provide before- and after-school care for children aged 7 to 14. If you need to put your child in a student care centre but cannot afford the fees, you can apply for help under ComCare.

Who can apply

The child must be a Singapore citizen or permanent resident (PR). If your child is a PR, at least one immediate family member of the child must be a Singapore citizen;
The child is between 7 and 14 years of age and is attending an MOE-registered school;
Both parents of the child are working; and
Either your monthly household income is $3,500 or below, or the average income of each family member is $875 or below.

Please check up the info at http://www.ecitizen.gov.sg/Topics/Pages/Subsidies-for-infant-child-and-student-care.aspx

Go for the one that gives you the highest chance to enter first. Other things can wait. Make sure u can get in first ! For now, this should be yr highest priority. Put yr leg into the gate first.

Agree, should go for the 1km one. The other one too far away requires balloting-higher risk.

Not true that 1km means you get in. CHIJ TP at Phase 2C requires balloting among citizens within 1km. OLGC also sometimes requires balloting. Would advise you to monitor the situation for both schools.

If both are unsuccessful, can consider Marymount Convent. Very near to TP.

About $300 on average. Some charge extra for tuition.
Student care schedule is as follows:

- teacher pick up from school bus drop off
- 1.30pm onwards: bathe lunch
- 2.30pm or 3pm onwards: Homework time
- Some offer extra tuition
- 4.30pm onwards: Play among friends or reading time
- 6 - 7pm: Go home

Are there separate bathroom (separate female from male students ) inside the student care centre, for kids to bathe ?

Pro-Teach have.
http://www.pro-teach.com/contact_locatebranch.asp
If you are worried about bathing, then tell kid not to bathe. It's not compulsory to bathe. Most just stay in their uniforms till evening.

Hi, I am new with this Forum. My child will be going to P1 in 2014 as well. Two schools within 1 km from my place are Rosyth and Hougang Primary. Have done PV for Hougang Primary. Heard Rosyth’s registration is super competitive. We are neither alumni nor PV. Only done PV for Hougang Primary. Can someone share experience with either of this school? How’s Hougang Primary? My priorities are distance + CCAs (performing arts).

i) Phase 2C Rosyth

113 registered, 43 places (based on last year, 2012)

Balloting occurred for SC - less than 1 km.
Intense competition. ratio is 3:1
ie. for every 3 Singapore citizenship kids involved in the balloting, only 1 lucky child’s name will be called out.

refer Rosyth historical P1 registration balloting statistics:-
http://www.rosyth.moe.edu.sg/cos/o.x?c=/wbn/pagetree&func=view&rid=78756

ii) Phase 2C Hougang primary
110 registered, 91 places (based on last year, 2012)

same as Rosyth –
ie. Balloting occurred for SC - also less than 1 km.
but competition less intense.

http://www.hougangpri.moe.edu.sg/cos/o.x?c=/wbn/pagetree&func=view&rid=76425

iii)
if fail to ballot into Rosyth successfully under Phase 2C (touch wood), you may choose other primary schools available, under Phase 2C Supplementary (go next phase ):-

for Serangoon :-
http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/serangoon
(St Gabriel, Yangzheng, Zhonghua - are available for 2C Supp)

for Hougang :-
http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/hougang
(Punggol, Xinghua, Xinmin, Yio Chu Kang, Montfort Junior - are available for 2C Supp)

==========================================================

btw, this coming Saturday (4 May 2013, 9 am - 12.30 pm), St Gabriel plus Ang Mo Kio schools are involved in the Parents seminar, organized by MOE. Schools will set up their booth there. The schools involved in this seminar include :-

◾St Gabriel’s Primary School

◾Mayflower Primary School

◾Townsville Primary School

◾Teck Ghee Primary School

Senario 1.

The child is being looked after by grandparent who is not employed and the child studied in a kindergarten near the grandparent’s place. If both parents are working full-time, statutory declaration can be made. The grandparent’s address can be used for the purpose of registration.Now, at the point of declaration, both parents are working. Now what if one of the parents has left the job or converted to flexi hours, will the child be penalised by MOE? That means if the child can get balloted into a school, will MOE penalise the child just because one of the parent is no longer working full-time after statutory declaration was made. Anyone can advise?
