      Hi Mummies,

I'm currently in a deliemma. Wanted to enrol my son to North Spring as I'm staying very near to North Spring however the only student care nearest to NSps, Lotus Student Care is closing down next year 2014 as they are converting into childcare centre :slapshead: :slapshead: .

So now North Spring is out of the question. The next choice will be Sengkang Pri but their in house student care is full and they only give priority to siblings of the current student next year and the next nearest student care, Sengkang Student Care just outside sengkang pri is also full!!!

Mummies in Sengkang area, besides they list of student care in MSF website, any other student care in Sengkang? Pls advise thanks. Greatly appreciated. I'm in a loss now. 😞
Look for a nanny to take care your child after school. Look for one you trust through recommendation near to your place of residence. This is one option that you can consider.

        Hi loonshi,

        Check -
Are all the schools in your area (sengkang) - p1 in morning session ?
Think After school student care centre apply, if p1 is morning session.

But if p1 is afternoon session for some schools, then no need student care centre, because your child will be spending their afternoon inside the school having classroom lessons.

Btw, parents also find out whether p1 next year is morning or Afternoon session, in that respective school you intend to enrol your child in. Not all schools have gone single session yet - until 2016. If your child is those type that have difficulty waking up early morning around 5 or 6 am to catch school bus (because most primary schools flag raising ceremony, sing national anthem around 7.15 am thereabout), maybe can consider schools that offer p1 afternoon session.

It is also a good time to find out which level in your school of choice kickstart higher Chinese. Because sometimes whether your child can do higher Chinese or not may not just depend on the exam results of Chinese one subject alone, but may also depend on the performance of other subjects along as well - to ensure that your child is able to cope with the demand of higher Chinese. This happen in some primary schools, not all.

Any parents from this batch intend to enrol

Their daughter into Marymount convent primary ?

If yes, take note of the requirements of higher Chinese at end of p4 exam, so that you know what to expect (FYI) : -

            Hi Everyone,

I very new to this forum. My son will be gg P1 next year, can anyone able to give some advise or share their feedback on St Gabriel's Primary and St Andrew's Junior...... thank you very much *_*

St Andrew's Junior will be a better choice. Heard of parents sell off landed property just to secure an apartment within 1 km of St Andrew's Junior. Ultimately, it depends on your own preference.

            Hi ChiefKiasu & sembgal,

            :thankyou: for your advise.

Both the schools, we will be under phase 2C. :?
            For
            - St Garbiel will be within 1km
            - St Andrew will be within 1-2km

            So :xedfingers:

              Phase 2c (last year 2012) -

              I) st Andrew junior -
Balloting occurred for sg citizenship children - staying between 1 to 2 km.

              Ii) st Gabriel -
Lots of vacancies remain at end of phase 2c. Not to worry.

If you don’t want any risk, then go for st Gabriel.
But if want to try yr luck at st Andrew, then come back st Gabriel in phase 2c supplementary.

              Academic wise -
Write into both schools, request for past 2 years Psle results, compare which school is stronger ? Don’t talk to the admin. Talk to the principal or vp, for Psle results. Ask specifically for the "percentage passes of a and a*, for all thr 4 subjects. don’t just get the general percentage Passes. " If she ask you why you need to know in detail, just speak the truth - that you’re considering this school seriously, hence need to know all the detail. "

Also need to check if that cca your son is interested in - is found in which school ?
Because when come p5/p6 (ie. 2018 / 2019), some of the students may dsa into certain secondary schools, via cca.

Any parents from this batch going to enrol their son or daughter into co-ed poi Ching primary (Tampines) ?

If you don't mind, take my advice.
From now may 2013 (remaining k2) till January p1 2014 - only leave at most 7 months. Not much time left. If possible, try to buy poi Ching Chinese yunyu textbook p1a, and let your child be familiarized with the Chinese vocab inside. Do not wait until p1.

Wow, now I am hesitating whether to send my child to Poi Ching. How can I know the primary school’s PSLE results like the national passes, school percentage passes so on and so forth? Anybody knows which are the schools in Tampines with high % of passes and scores of A/A*? Primary registration starts in Jun/Jul just 1-2 mths aways. I am very anxious to know how the schools fare on last year PSLE esp the ones that I am interested to enroll my child in?

You are a wise parent who has chosen a school near to where your child and you live. My suggestion to you: 1st choice you can put Rivervale. 2nd choice will be those new schools in SK with student care inhouse service. You should short list at least 2 schools for Phase 2Cs in the event can't ballot into Rivervale Primary though u stay within 1 km. 3 new schools that began operation in Sengkang this year are Palm View Primary, Sengkang Green Primary and Springdale Primary. Remember new schools come with new facilities. But that doesn't mean the teachers are all new. There could be very experienced teachers who seek transfer to these new primary schools.
If you prefer established schools to new schools, you may consider North Spring Primary or Compassvale Primary or Sengkang Primary or North Vista Primary. Browse through all the primary school websites to get more info on their programmes and whether there will be inhouse studentcare. It's better to choose inhouse student care service than external student care service. Because the inhouse student care teachers will collaborate with your child's primary teachers and they can do a follow-up if necessary.
                      Good luck to you![/quote]
Hi! Thanks for ur advice! Will have to further run some checks and discuss with my hubs on what's the best for my girl and us as well. 🙂

Hi, just to share my experience with you. I had in mind to let my child start with Higher Chinese in P1 at a selected school of choice. However, after the Parent-Teacher Meeting with my child’s Chinese teacher who have taught her for 2 years and understood her progress, shared that if my child could take the stress of learning Higher Chinese at P1, I can let her try. I got her message. To me as a parent, if my English potato child is enjoying Chinese at a comfortable pace, I should not add undue pressure and expectation on her. A stressed child will result the parents being stressed. Therefore, I’m reconsidering the school of choice now and would like my child to enjoy her early years in primary schools. I was advised that my child could still have a chance to take Higher Chinese in upper primary in future.

I’m sharing this because I have high expectation on my child just like any other parents. But, I believe that a happy child will learn better. It’s a matter of choice if you want your child to cope with Chinese at a level that is more difficult.

Lastly, my child’s weakness in Chinese is speaking part. I felt that I should help her speak more confidently in Mandarin for the next three years in order to prepare her to take Higher Chinese in upper level. Other than the speaking part, the rest like listening, writing and reading in Chinese Language have no worries for my child.

Speak to your child’s Chinese preschool teacher to find out your child’s standard. I was told that during Chinese lesson, the children were speaking in English! Horror, too late. Now, I began to speak to my child in Mandarin instead of only English.

The best time to speak to the teacher will be during Parent-Teacher Meeting. But note that each session usually is 10 to 15 mins. Prepare your questions ahead to ask the Chinese teacher in advance.
