To meet the exam age requirement, they should be doing grade 1 april exam when they are in p2. Also, at lower grades, it is not neccessary to downgrade when switching frm cstd to rad… at least so far, non of us had to do that… unless of course if you make the switch in the middle of the year.

Hi nsm1 and nicnac, I don't think my girl can skip exam and go grade 2 as she has all the while been doing CSTD syllabus. It was quite lucky that when I call up the teacher, they just started their grade 1 class 2 weeks ago. So my girl only missed 2 lesson and the teacher found her able to follow the RAD syllabus to stay in grade 1. By right, she should be doing her grade 1 with CSTD at P2, this year. But because of the switch and RAD only do exam in Apr, she now got to go through the new RAD syllabus for next yr Apr.

I'm just thinking ahead that by P6, she'll only be in grade 4, when most of the girls will be in grade 5 or 6? If she has some talent in it and decides to go for DSA school, she'll probably has a lower chance compared to the rest? 😂 A bit too early to worry right? 😛

If you’re really concerned about her being behind her peers, you can ask the teacher if she could try grade 2 for a lesson and see if she can follow. I’m not familiar with CSTD syllabus, but I think lower levels should be learning almost the same things, except maybe they have different terms for the different moves. The big jump is from grade 2 to grade 3. I don’t think grade 1 to grade 2 has very very different things.

I started right from grade 2, without having done preprimary, primary or grade 1.

The new syllabus introduced for grade 1 - 3 is very different and certainly not easy. Few of the students in Grade 1 exam this year that I know, are in their primary 3 & 4. Suggest you speak with the teacher.

Thanks to all your reply. Yes, I’ve read that there is a new syllabus for RAD grade 1-3. I think since RAD is new to her, it might be better for her to learn from grade 1. I want her to enjoy dancing, not going to stress her even though I’m a little concern. ^_^

What is the difference between CSTD and RAD?

My child’s ballet teacher prepares them for CSTD, Australian grading.

Significant diff would be Cstd from australia. Rad from uk. With rad having a longer history.
