Last night, I completed 2 English worksheets. :x

Chinese language comprehension, teacher did not pull those students who answer \"3 words\" for remedial lessons. 😢

This kind of answers, this type of attitude, do you know what the kid will get during our times, sometime in 1970s? :? jialuk jialuk.
Home visit by teachers! Public caning.

Teachers in the yesteryears are more committed. hundred yrs nurturing pple. :celebrate: They really concerned for the pupils.

These days, the teachers like bochap.... teachers can keep blind eyes over my kid's answers.... I am amazed!

After dinner, wife gave me 20 maths questions. Target to finish by tonight. All questions from kid's school teacher. 😢

Last minute, I have to cancel my evening walk to Popular Bookshop. :x

How many times we have to study PSLE in our lives? 2 or perhaps 3 times? (incl. grand children) 🙏

        Suffering. :x :?:

I don't understand ... If the kid does not know how to do the Maths questions, why don't he go back to school and ask the teachers to explain again? Then the teacher would know, this kid has some problem in his work and need extra help. If the kid keep having good results (due to his own effort or his parent's effort), the teacher would presume, the kid is doing fine. Your child is taking PSLE in the exam hall, not you. :?

How to ask teacher? Basically no time. Teacher never teach, just give worksheets to students and the next day, teacher write answer on board and ask students to copy. Mind you, it is elite sch hor.

Basically, teach less is to spoon-feed less, but students have to learn more, so teachers need to think of innovative ways for children to learn by discovery, hands-on experimentation, research, group discussion, dramatisation/role-playing etc etc so that knowledge gained is not just superficial. Outcome is so that in-depth understanding and application of knowledge can be attained.

Teachers need to know how to facilitate the class in order to draw out and consolidate knowledge learnt and acquired by students, which is not an easy task and not all teachers are able to do it effectively.
Teach less learn more is not for Maths. And for Science, you need structured sentence for answer. This CAN BE taught. But are sch teacher teaching & stressing as such? If you get good teacher, yes.

\"3 words answer\" would not auto be included for remedial. Must be consistently having bad results. And remedial is not solely compre.

If financially and time permit, I suggest you look for outside tuition. There you can really hands off.

I have my share of vomit blood with sch teachers when coaching my elder child. Now for younger child, I tell my son to follow my teaching if conflict with teacher.

caroline3sg, I not sure if its so called elite school for my child, her pri school is one of the top 10 schools test paper schools. I have not seen her encountered such issue before. How about getting your child to fix a time with the teacher after school or during recess to ask on his queries? Have you feedback this to the teachers during the yearly Meet Parent's session? Or call to have a word with the teacher? If majority of the students cannot understand, how about the students getting the teachers to give remedial lesson after school time? How about have a word with the Principal to understand the school's style of teaching in general?

No point & no need. My girl now sec 1. During those yrs, all maths teachers are lousy. Remedial only for simple questions. I spoke to teacher before:
                I: remedial for complex questions?
teacher: not complex questions. drill simple questions. how to teach complex if simple cannot get right?

I was thinking: simple questions got wrong because of carelessness, not because don’t know. I asked my girl then, what was covered in remedial. She said conversion type of questions 1kg = 1000g, 1m = 100 cm. This type of remedial, don’t go; don’t waste time.

Remedial should be those complex question like the tap question or ratio question where by you need more time to dissect the question.

In the end, thanks to the questions posted in this forum, I compiled the questions & answers and ask home tutor to teach.

my conclusion: teacher already have mind set that weak students can’t handle complex question, so hands off.

Only P6 Science teacher is good. She gave whole stack of mind maps for all topics (she did herself) for each of the students. However, it was outside tuition teacher that stresses the need to memorise standard answers which my girl hated / have difficulty.

because it is elite sch, teachers know everyone has tuition outside. So their job is very easy –> touch & go, basically only the skeleton of topics. In depth, tuition teachers’ job.

My girl’s friend was in one of top 2 classes. Her teacher asked: who has tuition at learning lab? many raised their hands. What does this mean? It is very clear. And I think you can guess what sch is this.

last time our teachers were middle age type, all had passion.

now the teachers very young one, no children of their own, so not kan cheong if students don’t do well. Don’t tell me KPI. There are bound to have students who are good and some who are weak in the same class.

Even though they go to their respective band class, the teacher wouldn’t be labelled as no good by Principal or MOE as the students are already labelled as weak.

caroline3sg, then I can say, my dd was very fortunate not to encounter such teachers before during her primary time. In P5 & 6, the teachers even come out with buddy system, mix and match students (good with bad) to help each other. And the teachers were good to make the lesson interesting and not simply just teach.

As regards to tuition, yes, in these type of schools, no tuition belongs to the minority group. I recalled during one Meet Parent's session, in P4, her Math teacher suggested me to send my girl for tuition because her Maths was not good enough. She also commented, my girl not active enough in class, understand or don't understand, she would just nod her head. After discussing with my girl, we told her, she should change her way and attitude of learning and not go straight to tuition. We keep encouraging her to approach teachers, seek help from classmates and glad to say, things turn out quiet well. 😄

                        Is it RGPS?
