My four year old had been grinding her teeth in her sleep since the beginning of the year. I sure hope that she could outgrow it soon. 🙏

Just think about it for a moment : You are physically and intellectually punier than the adults all around you and utterly dependent upon them for your bodily and emotional survival. You have precious litlle control over your life. All the big decisions and many minor ones are made for you. As a rule, you're expected to do what you're told, regardless of what you might want. Frustratingly, you often don't even know what you do want. The world around you might be full of wonders, but it also reveals itself to eba place full of unfathomable terrors. Unfortunately for you, you lack the experience to know which is which. The more you learn, the more alarming it can all seem. Your body keeps changing size and shape at an unpredictable rate, and you find yourself at the mercy of poerful waves of emotions that can completely overwhelm you at a moment's notice.

And to top if off, you speech ability (or lack of it) just does not allow you to express what's going on in your head and heart. And the adults around you just don't get what you say, neither do they know how to read your body language.

Is that stressful . . you bet it is

Wondering any parent with child grinding teeth while sleeping? My 8 year old son grinds his teeth at night. It is terribly loud. I think his teeth is getting "shorter". Does wearing a mouth night guard uncomfortable?

I understand what you are going thru. I started this thread in 2008 and have since used some of the tips given by fellow forumers here including sashimi’s tip about talking to them when they are asleep. Not sure if it’s due to that but it seems to have worked as my child who has just turned 7 does not grind her teeth so often. I have not heard her grinding her teeth for at least a few months now. It used to be almost a few times a week. The reason could also be that she is now older and able to express herself better hence able to communicate better…so less ‘mung jang’. Just my own theory! Or it could be like what some said, they stop when they approach 8.

My DS will turn 7 this year and he is still grinning his teeth when he sleeps.

the other, one of his baby tooth dropped off when he was grinning in his sleep. luckily he woke up without shallowing it. 😉

Perhaps can ask where plardo bought the night guard. But just wondering if there's any risk of the child swallowing it.

if it's the same one I saw, it's probably too big unless the child bites off some bits of it and swallows those parts  It's a retainer looking thingy.

I wear a custom fitted splint when I sleep cos I grind. It’s made of extremely hard plastic n it clinks in pretty securely so it would be pretty hard for it to come loose in the mouth during sleep. You can get a mould done by a dentist n have one made for you. I’m not sure how old a child must be before he can wear one but I’m getting my 14 yo one soon. If you’re an adult, I’d advise you to get one before you grind your teeth down to the dentine. A good dentist would notice wear and advise making a splint.

Thanks. I invest an average of about $1500 on my teeth per year :faint: . My dentist look to me to pay for his year-end ski trips.
                        LOL

I have teeth grinding problem. Dentist had me made a splint. It cost me >$500!
