小兵迎大将

next few episodes will have RGPS, NYPS, and who else ?
Let's see how many 小兵 can last until the last question for both schools.
I guees the other would be GEP and SAP schools. -
KSP:
.. also some neighbourhood non GEP or SAP schools. The school can keep the money. Will be interesting to see which school can keep the most money. :lol:verykiasu2010:

So that's his name and his character's name. Sorry... call me stoic and prudish... but I still think that character is inappropriate in a supposedly intellectual kid's show, regardless of the talent of the artiste. Why can't he dress up like Einstein or something relevant to the show?ChiefKiasu:
It was pretty good. But I really thought that cross-dresser guy is totally inappropriate for a show like this. It is one thing to cross-dress and behave like an old grandma like Jack Neo. It is another to dress and behave like a woman in a show which I assume lots of kids would be watching.
Imho, Dennis Chew is one of the more talented and knowledgeable DJs/artistes in MediaCorp. Perhaps that is why they got him into the show.
The Auntie Lucy character is popular among kids. MediaCorp might have felt that she would be better able to strike a chord with the children, as well as attract adult viewers. -
My kid got attracted to the show 'cos of Aunty Lucy  so no complaints though yeah, a bit cow head not matching horse mouth.
Good educational programme for kids though I realised I spent more time translating and helping my kid to understand the question (including myself) than answering the question. The question disappeared too fast. They should keep the question on the screen longer for the audience.
I was expecting the adult participation artiste team to invoke thoughts on questions, throw punchlines and educate audience while trying to decipher answers - so quite disappointing though Quan Yifeng did rather well in attempting. -
I have 2 minds about Aunty Lucy.
For people who know the background of how Aunty Lucy come about, perhaps they don't find the cross-dressing out of place and can relate to it. Perhaps Aunty Lucy is an epitome of wealth of knowledge or in reality it is really hard to find any artiste who knows enough to play the role?? :?
The other thought is: I, for one, had no idea how this character was born so I found it distasteful too....if it is only a motherly figure they need, why not find a real one like Chen Li Ping, afterall she was \"Aiyoyo....\" from preschool days....now perhaps she can progress to primary?
I think primary school education leading to PSLE has scared off many adults by now....
You know what? I think they should have put a swinging penguin holding a conductor stick with the fins and a thick pair of myopic glasses guiding the children in the show..... Professor Penguin from ksp.com .....
 -

No lah... Not advocating anything like that. It was just my personal opinion that my enjoyment of the show was marred by what I thought was an inappropriate distraction. I have no idea who Aunty Lucy was and how talented the artiste is as I hardly watch TV. -
Just read today's wanbao. A journalist was at the recording scene. She didn't explicitly mention this progamme name. Apparently, alot of the questions needed to be translated to English as the participating pr. school students couldn't understand the questions posed in Mandarin! She was really appalled at their low chinese standard. Quoting from her column, \"本地学生华文水平的低落, 让我叹为观止。而且,这些已经是来自精英学校的最优良分子。\"
According to her, the recording which probably could finish in 3 hours took 6-7 hours to complete due to the translation process. The TV crew kept reminding her not to write this out as it's \"太丢人\". She wrote (in Chinese), \"On the TV screen, TV viewers only saw the gracefulness and elegance of the swans but for her and the rest present in the studio, they saw the feet of the swans struggling hard under the water. The real truth, often needs to be covered up\".
Sigh! Sad... -

and even the higher chinese lang does not cover any technical terms used in math and science, so how do you expect the P4 / P5 kids to be conversant with math and science terms in Chinese ?? Put yourself in their shoes, can you do as well without translation ? how many of you know carbon dioxide and nitrogen cycle in chinese ? what is nitrogen in chinese ? do you know ? (I know of course) -
:!: OMG dimsum!!! My perfect image of these \"精英学校的最优良分子\".....just got smashed!! Based on translation??
If what you say is true....I am really sad....
Then why did they do this program in Chinese? :slapshead: -
