        A box can be filled either with 21 big balls or 49 small balls.

              Need a little help here on DS P3 math

              1) Hendry has some apples. when he put them equally into boxes of 3, he will have 5 more boxes than if he puts them into boxes of 4. how many apples does he have?

              Ans is 60.

              2) how do you teach your kid fraction, example:
              arrange in order from greatest to smallest?
              7/8 1/12 5/6

              normally i will find a common factor from the nenominator. but if the no CF , how?

                If 3 apples per box, then 15 apples would have been extra if the same no of boxes had been used.
                So 15 apples had been distributed to the boxes when 4 apples were put into each box.
                Each box can accommodate 1 extra apple
                so there must have been 15 boxes.
                so no of apples = 15x4 =60 apples

                  If there are already 35 small balls in the box, how many big balls can still be placed in the box?

                  The space for putting the big balls and small balls ratio is

                  For every 7(49) small balls, it can accomodate 3(21) big balls.

                  49-35 = 14 small balls space available.

                  14 small balls space can accomodate 6 big balls.

                  Hence 6 big balls can be placed in the box.

                  hi,

                  i got my answer as 15 Big balls,

                  working:
                  21B = 49S
                  3B = 7S
                  3B (x 5) = 7S (x 5)
                  15B = 35S

                  correct?

                      hi,

                      i got my answer as 15 Big balls,

                      working:
                      21B = 49S
                      3B = 7S
                      Correct till here

                      Now I believe the second part you have misunderstood. There are already 35 small balls in the box. we have to find out how many big balls can fit into the remaining space.

                      So now there is space for 49-35 = 14 small balls

                      14S = 2 x 7S
                      = 2 x 3B
                      = 6B
                      [/quote]
