Well if you DSA into a school using a particular talent you are expected to contribute to the school through this talent. So if you DSA through dance you're expected to turn up for all lessons, rehearsals and performances. Which shouldn't be a chore because presumably dance is a passion for those who DSA in using it. Better than being benched because you're not deemed good enough to be selected for local and international performances and competitions.Ya, my friend's dd is now in SCGS and still dancing for the school. Basically sounds like it is a mandatory that she has to take part in every performance locally and overseas. It is somehow 'owing' a favour to this ballet instructor.
Personally, I rather use academic to enter into DSA rather than 'owing a favour to a coach'.
It's not about owing a favour to the coach. It's about the student fulfilling her obligation as a DSA dance student. -

wrt NYHS case. I think there is a difference between DSA vs affiliations scheme. DSA is by outstanding result(with supporting leadership or subject talent profile) or sport talent selection while affiliations scheme is purely by PSLE T-score at a lower cut-off. So if a mainstream NYPS has no specialities for DSA she can still get in via a lower PSLE cut-off thru affiliation scheme. DSA is an independent process for talent selection so why should there be affiliation consideration? It is the same in all schools.

yes, a friend's son got into the school via a particular sport. for the past 3 years or more, he has been to every single pracitce (well nearly), every competition (100%)..he is not allowed to give it up. -

For DSA, beside good academic results schools also look at whether the students have any specialty like represent school in any competition, any award or Biculture camp ...etc I know a lot of mainstream students with no talent profile apply DSA to HCI are also not shortlisted at phase 2. HCI is kind enough not to ask them to pay $50 and waste their time for DSA. Anyway those who are sound academically are very likely to do well and still get into their dream school.
if they were rejected at DSA and accepted other DSA offers, as is now well known -- MOE barred the appeal and transfer wef 2011 DSA - even if NYGH wanted to take in at the appeal stage with good result - there is no way for that to happen. Thus, as expected people talked about this. Some may argue if these girls were outstanding in the first place, the fact that they were welcomed by NYGH's top rival schools would seem to support that they were.
The 2011 COs for NYPS girls was believed to markedly less compared to previous years. However, this last point, is hearsay. -

Yes... HCI ask DSA applicant to pay $50 and submit supporting documents, only when they are shortlisted... I think very good process.. save time and $$

I hear people saying ... not allowed to give it up... if go by DSA sport.... and I have been asking those people whether dd/ds feel like give it up?.... and any particular reason?......bcos thinking my ds to try DSA-sport :scratchhead: -
