Have attended HCI briefing today, the chance of converting WL1 to CO is 100% as per principle. Based on past experience, nearly 50% CO receivers will choose RI eventually. The chance for WL2 is very high too, 98%~100%, depends on how many students give up CO.

did you ask what is the reason for such high % not exercising their option for HCI ?

      No parents asked leh.

Well, I would not comment what are reasons cause such high % not exercising the option but like to share a question raised by one parent:

The parent asked that her DS not good at Chinese, what the impact would be if he studies in HCI? The principle said he wouldn't expect all HCI students are very good at Chinese or like CL very much, but at least must not 'hate' CL. If the student 'hate' CL, there is no point to study in HCI.
Kids will have programmes to help them brush up their Chinese and speak Mandarin in HCI. HCI get their students to order zaobao, chinese magazine and read in the morning. The incorporate Chinese drama, current affair and debate in their Chinese programme too. Eventually the students Chinese will improved and like Chinese. For English, they give lots of training too. The language arts incorporate current affair, literature, ... You can see from those MP from HC how proficient they are in both languages.

High? 50% wa. From the RI point of view, 50% who receive both RI & HCI will give up RI and go to HCI. What is the reason for giving up RI then?
Perhaps RI less focus on the variety of Chinese programme, like drama, debate, .. to help train the students in their Mandarin, what else?
        between RI and HCI -

which Sec school do you think shows more concern and is deemed more proactive in developing moral character values in Sec school boys ?

Character comes first, before academic excellence.

at this point, we're grimly reminded of RI ex boys .... Kong Hee, Ren Chi monk (Shi Ming Yi), TT Durai. Which school make more notorious news, at front line news ?

        ii)
which Sec school has richer, deeper history ?
pardon me, but I am still not familiar with certain terms used here.

Can any 1 enlighten what is the meaning of mainstreamers? what kids are considered mainstreamers?

Your DC is studing which level now in primary school.

For P4,P5,P6 there are 2 are 2 team which GEP students and non GEP students (main streamers) something like express, normal ,technical .

            Hi Leeven,

My child is due to register for P1 next yr for 2014. However, as I have not much knowledge abt the primary school education system, I am trying to learn as much as possible, including primary school registrations and so on to prepare myself and child at same time.

So far, the forum here has been very informative, except for times whereby I may not understand certain terms. So please pardon me when I ask silly questions at times.

Hope all will get the COs you wanted!!!! I can feel the joys and empathise with the disappointments of the parents here, for I also want and hope for the best for my kid as well.

            cheers
Hi Dino,

There are no silly questions. The Grandmasters on KSP are very helpful. As a newbie, I have gained much from the sharing BUT it's also important that U learn from MOE's website as some info here might be presented in diff lights.

At the end of the day, make sure yr DC enjoys his/her early primary school years and the school practices strong values. Also ensure yr DC starts to enjoy and not fear MT. GEP or Mainstream, let nature takes its course.

3 years ago, I came to know this KSP forum after my ds got into GEP. Still remember I spent a few nights reading the whole GEP thread. These few days, trying to read the RI and HCI threads. What a torture to my eyes!

                  My 2 cents worth.

                  i) All schools hv fair share of rotten eggs. Just unfortunate that RI's are more recently/more prominently in the news.

In HCI, one can see their exhortation of their PIER values everywhere and their students/alumni always acknowledge the \"Family\" and \"Homeliness\" of the school.

RI has visibly strong PTA as can see at their Open House.

ii) Obviously RI has longer history being the first school in SG.

My son got WL from NUS High and CO from RI. Got a letter from RI suggested that he should indicates RI as his top preference. We originally plan to put NUS high as the 1st choice. If he didn’t success there, he’ll go RI. Will that make RI not happy?

what makes you assume that every one who gets HCI CO also gets RI CO ?

what makes you think that those who give up HCI CO must necessarily be going to RI ? or those giving up RI CO must go to HCI ?

                      what presumptiousness !

every school will tell you to put their school down as first choice.

WL from NUSH is likely to be converted to CO. So if you put NUSH down as first choice, it is unlikely you will be posted to RI. So no worry
