hi SAHM_TAN, i have just finished reading the introduction notes by the author and now planning to do it with DS. I think our DD or DS is around the same age, my DS is 4 in 2 days !


Can you share how did you start ? Brought him to berries but he did not like the trial lesson, but he likes it at Zhi Ying. But I want to try to teach myself and if really cannot make it then will send him to enrichment class.

How old is your DD and how long did it take you to finish book 1 ? TIA

I took about 1 month or so with DD1 to finish book 1. With DS, it's still an onging process. He's too checky. So will need more time with him. We speak Mandarin at home, so that may or may not have helped.

I just start with the first lesson, using the tips provided by the author on how to introduce each character to the child. I also bought an expendable folder, about half A4 size but longer, from Popular. It has many pockets and I can label each pocket. This help me to keep track of the characters to revise, pass, etc. Since I'm going through with both DD1 and DS at the same time, I bought 2 folder.

i also have problem storing those cards. in the end, i tie each stack in a rubber band and keep in a rectangular container/box. i think shoe box is also possible.

can share with us how you flash those chinese character words from ‘Si wu kwai du’ book to yr child ? did you re-photostat the character words, cut out and then place into the pockets to flash ?

did you flash all words from each chapter from book 1 ?

actually i bought 四五快读, as well as 康氏中文快速识读教程.


i compared the contents inside both sets.
康氏中文快速识读教程 the chinese characters inside are more indepth, vocabulary more ‘chim’ compared to 四五快读 ( a lot easier).

四五快读 doesnt have any Nursery rhyme books.
but 康氏中文快速识读教程 series have Nursery rhyme books.
good because while kids sing, they can recognize the Chinese characters as they sing out the song.

both sets are good.
both have their own unique strength!

I don't flash the cards. I don't remember reading the author suggesting that. I'm going through the books with my 2 older kids. At the end of bk 1 My DD1 was very happy and she just speed read aloud the characters as I show them to her, she kept telling me to go faster.

When I'm less tired, will print larger font size for my bb as suggested by the author.

I find that so troublesome to take out the cards as I store using the rubber band in the zip lock bag.
